  • Read a fairytale with a hero or heroine and discuss how that character displayed courage.
  • Come up with classroom definition of courage
  • Have students create their own fairytale where they are the hero or heroine and must display courage.
  • Create a collage of pictures that display courage
  • Create a mask of a face that looks courageous
  • Utilize the “Courage to Stand” lesson plans
  • Ask your students to draw a picture of 3 animals they think are courageous and ask them why they chose those particular animals.
  • Have students bring in a picture of someone they think displays courage and then do a “show and tell” about each person.
  • Label a bulletin board “Listening to My Strong Side” and place a stack of blank paper nearby. Invite children to use the paper to write about a situation in which they listened to their strong side, kept a positive attitude, and persevered despite setbacks. Tack the finished stories to the bulletin board.
  • Distribute poster board or plain paper and ask children to create their own posters showing the kinds of behavior that demonstrate courage: standing up for one’s values, refusing to go along with the crowd in doing something dangerous, speaking out against a bully, and so on. Display the posters on the bulletinboard or classroom walls.
