Project Officer: CALD Capacity Building Project (Resource Development)

Position purpose: To develop resources to enhance the rights of people with disability from CALD backgrounds, their families and carers; with a particular focus on building capacity to engage with the NDIS.
Classification / SCHADS Level 5
Location / Based at Building 3, 142 Addison Road, Marrickville 2204
Frequent travel throughout Sydney.
Screening and external authorisation requirements /
  • Working with Children’s Check clearance obtained prior to commencement andevery 5 years
  • National Criminal Record Check to be conducted prior to commencement and repeated every 4 years
  • Referee and other checks to be conducted prior to commencement as per ECSC Policies and Procedures

Accountable to / Disability Services Manager, Programs Manager, Executive Director, Board of Directors
Working relationships / In addition to reports as above, this position maintains working relationships with:

Resource development /
  • Conduct research (such as analysis of Census data, literature review, and consultation with stakeholders) to identify needs and opportunities for resource development
  • Maintain up-to-date knowledge about changes occurring in the disability services sector and their impacts upon CALD people with disability, their families and carers
  • Consult with Capacity Building team members regarding the development of resources to contribute to achieving the project objectives
  • Coordinate the development of new resources and update existing resources, in line with project objectives. This may include identifying what resources are required; developing the concept for new resources; developing resource content; overseeing production (e.g. liaison with graphic designer or DVD production company); planning resource launch and distribution; and evaluation of resource effectiveness.
  • Ensure resources are accessible to the target community including language, cultural and disability requirements.
  • Contribute to applications to access funding to support resource development on request from Team Leader

  • Submit quarterly supervision reports and participate in annual work performance reviews with the Team Leader

Skills, knowledge and qualification requirements / ESSENTIAL
  • Tertiary qualifications in Community Development, Social Work, Education, Communication, Media or related areas
  • Demonstrated understanding of and commitment to the principles of Multiculturalism, Access and Equity and human rights
  • Strong understanding of the Australian disability sector and the National Disability Insurance Scheme (NDIS), and particularly how these may impact upon CALD communities
  • Demonstrated skills in community consultation with multicultural communities to identify strengths and needs
  • Demonstrated ability to work effectively in a team to achieve project objectives
  • Demonstrated ability to coordinate a variety of tasks to achieve project objectives with personal drive and integrity
  • Highly developed written and verbal communication skills, with a demonstrated ability to engage and inspire a variety of stakeholders
  • Demonstrated knowledge in developing and adapting resources to ensure accessibility to a variety of audiences (including multicultural communities and people with disability)
  • High level of computer literacy including a strong working knowledge of Microsoft Office programs.
DESIRABLE
