Matters arising:

Deans Community High School Dance Team was commended by the Council for the success they have had at a recent competition.

Rights Respecting Schools -interview had to be moved due to realignment of Angela Constance‘s job. The Date has been moved to a date more suitable to the New Minister for Skills and Lifelong Learning, Aileen Campbell.

Uniform - Clarification was given my Mr Wright and a slip given to tutors explaining in detail what the regulation was exactly, positive feedback was given for this action by the members of the Council.

Action - Members are advised to request this information from tutors; an A4 copy of this slip is to be placed on tutor classes notice-boards.

Aimee brought up the back gate being closed during Lunches and After-School.

Action –Nicholas recommended that this be discussed at a later meeting.

Discussion:

A copy of the proposed sculpture is to be put on the bulletin and possibly enclosed in these minutes. Pupils shown it were ‘not keen on the idea‘. Mr Wright was. DAWN, as stated in last meetings minutes, are providing the cost for this.

Action - Nicole is to see Allison about this happening.

Action - a questionnaire is to be made to collect opinions for structure; Chloe and Georgia will deal with this.

Lockers was brought up as a result of the discussion, the need for lockers was questioned for younger students by several members of the council. As pointed out however, by Georgia, there is a high demand for lockers, so a draw for them might be a good idea, or possibly the idea of locker rental was also suggested. Mr Wright also said that space might be an issue that would need to be addressed.

Action - Wait until lockers are finished being assigned and then decided on the relevant action.
AOB:

The School Chaplain was brought up as several members believe that there is no real point. As Sara pointed out, he only represents a single religion, when we should represent multiple religions. Chloe, however, points out that this has been discussed before. Mr Wright points out that it is a legal requirement to have him and we would be heavily criticised by HMIE if we did not fill this requirement. Sandy added by saying that while it was bracketed as preaching Christianity to non-Christians, the values of religions are still relevant.

Action - to find out about the exact legality from Ms Cook, and to find out the nearest religious places of worship of the Major religions to include them as well. Cameron will deal with this.

Nicole said that some parents have been complaining that some cars are parking in drop off area.

Action - Mr Wright will bring this to Ms Cook’s attention, will respond at next meeting.

A complaint was made that in the restaurant food bought outside there, not being allowed to be eaten there, not all of the details.

Action - Nicholas will ask Ms Palmer about the policy and report back before further action is taken.
