The Lord is My Shepherd

A Sunday School teacher decided to have her young class memorize one of the most quoted passages in the Bible –

Psalm 23. She gave the youngsters a month to learn the chapter. Little Rick was excited about the task, but he just couldn’t remember the Psalm. After much practice, he could barely get past the first line.

On the day that the kids were scheduled to recite Psalm 23 in front of the congregation, Ricky was so nervous. When it was his turn, he stepped up to the microphone and said proudly, “The Lord is my Shepherd, and that’s all I need to know”.

YFM REGISTRATION for 2009/ 2010

The deadline to register for next year’s program was June 30, 2009. Registered families will receive further information in late August with class information and starting dates.

YOUTH GROUP

Our Tuesday evening youth group continues to meet each week at 7pm in St. Andrew’s Hall on the second floor of St. Catherine’s Convent. All high school students are welcome to join us. Doors open at 6pm. This meeting has been a great success with 20 to 25 students attending weekly. We are always looking for new high school members!

MATTHEW 25

Students are invited to join us for this year’s Matthew 25 Program, which will take place immediately following Vacation Bible School, July 20 through 24. Last summer the YFM group assisted many parishioners around Norwood. We will again be planning to do similar work in the parish community. Students wishing to join us should sign up by contacting the YFM Office. Seniors who have minor repair projects and painting should contact Frank Connell at 617-792-3433 or Margaret Hayes at 781-762-2903 to reserve a crew for the summer.

GOSPEL ROAD

For this summer, we are bringing back, and revitalizing a very unique weeklong service program known as Gospel Road. The project will run from Sunday evening, July 26 until Friday afternoon, July 31. This program had great popularity in the Archdiocese years ago and was very popular at St. Timothy’s and St. Catherine’s as well. I am looking for both students and parents who would be interested in assisting with any one of the many aspects of this program. Please contact the YFM Office at 617-792-3433. With the economy still very unstable, and families having to tighten budgets, this is the YFM’s alternative to an out-of-state service trip. The deadline to register for this service week is Monday, July 13.

No registration or identification is needed, Often, there are activities to participate in at the sites, making the SFSP a nutritious, safe, fun way for children and youth to get healthy meals when school is out! St. Tim’s Book Group

Our book discussion group met recently to discuss Breakfast with Buddha by Roland Merullo. Conversation centered on questions of self-discovery and the search for inner peace. As we each search to know ourselves and to grow into a “good” person, it is the little choices that we make, day in and day out that contribute to the sum total of who we are. We pondered the question of social responsibility in helping others to recognize the value of their own lives and others’ lives, as children of God. In our faith, it is living the Gospel message that brings about this goodness in society and ultimately leads us to the inner peace that is promised in Jesus Christ. A wonderful, rich conversation! The group rated the book a 9.75 on our ratings scale. Thanks to all who participated. Our next meeting will be on July 27, 2009 when we will discuss The Guernsey Literary and Potato Peel Society by Mary Ann Shaffer and Anne Barrows. Please join us! And our meeting in August will be on August 31 when we will discuss The Thirteenth Tale by Diane Setterfield. Please join us!
