Parish Council Meeting

November 17, 2016

Education Building, Room 12, 6:43 pm.

Volunteer Hours: 8

Call to Order: A monthly meeting of the Parish Council was held in the Education Building Room #12 on November 17, 2016. The meeting convened at 6:43pm. Chairperson Mary Soparas presiding andrecording the minutes.

Members in Attendance:

Fr. Mike Ingram, Deacon Joe Soparas, Mary Soparas, Rita Lovering Don DeClue, Ruth Smith, Terri Vigna, Alan Thornton,Thuy Nguyen,Paula Spaulding, David Wilkie, Chris Eckert and Peter Elliot.

Members Excused:

Bob Amy, Tim Przybysz,Lee Ann Molini,Gina Jenkins,Emily Gibson, Gene Dollander Joyce Broughton,Patrick Mathenyand Angie Mallar.

Ad Hock Ministry Reports:

  • Finance—No Report.
  • Communications—Mary.
  • The Audio/Visual Equipment Needs Assessment form needs to be submitted to Gina as soon as possible.
  • On the ALOG, the search feature is active, but still waiting to purchase software.
  • Received additional volunteers from T&T.
  • Currently searching for someone with Video experience.
  • Hispanic Ministry—Angie No Report
  • Vietnamese Ministry—Thuy. January 29 is the Vietnamese New Year. This is a Deanery event and all are invited.

Standing Ministry Reports

  • Facility—Chris.
  • Mulching of Sanctuary is a staff responsibility.
  • Additional areas for future work days are, roof repair outside kitchen, chair cleaning, rectory hill run off, fence line, and pond burning.
  • Starting in 2017, Saturday work days will be the 3rd week of the month.
  • Christian Service—Pat- No Report
  • Education and Evangelization— David.
  • Still working on booking a concert for next year. Fr. Ingram asked about “Nuns for Fun” and will check further into this possibility.
  • Symbolon completed and Epic to follow in January
  • Parish Life—Rita, Paula, and Don.
  • Rita stated 398 has signed up for the Thanksgiving Dinner; plan to order for 425-450.
  • Thanks to all for a successful Veteran’s Dinner.
  • Mary stated still looking for a chairperson for a possible Valentine’s Dance/Dinner. Another problem with this is what weekend to for this to be scheduled due to additional booking conflicts.
  • Paula stated 25 Newcomers including children attended the last reception. She also has 5 additional members on her committee. The next reception will be on Feb. 19th.
  • Don stated had a successful pancake breakfast with $700 going toward the pavilion.
  • Stewardship—Peter. 116.5 volunteer hours.
  • Of the 37 forms to follow up from T&T, all but 4 were contacted.
  • Plan to have additional stewardship forms on the web.
  • Next T & T to be scheduled.
  • Plan to reorder Stewardship books.
  • Worship— Ruth.
  • Functions held outside need to address sound improvements.
  • Addressed the altar server vestments needed cleaning. Fr. Ingram will check into this.
  • Baptismal Bibs shortage taken care of by Ruth Smith for a time.

Old Business:

  • Deacon Joe. IOP update. To date, there has been a total of 486 commitment cards returned. Of this 35% response rate, it is projected to increase the offertory by $342,000. A final report will follow soon.

New Business:

  • Additions to Campus- Mary stated the Parish Council should be informed of additional improvements to the campus when possible. Sometimes it was noted that things happen faster than normal planning and so noted.
  • 2nd collection notice- Mary stated parishioners needed to be informed in advance when a 2nd collection will occur.

Open Discussion:

  • Relay for Life: Alan-Nov. 1st luminary/torch ceremony was very moving and well done; raised $2800 in donations. The Cuts for a Cure raised more than $2000 resulting over $5000 in donations. Planning in spring to have a rosary/balloon release.

Pastor’s Comments: Fr. Mike commented things going well. Concerned with rooms being returned to original diagram. Also if food is left over from a function, please notify others for availability. Thanks to everyone for all they do here at St. Teresa’s.
