Competitions

St Richard’s have made a very strong start to the year in the East and Central Manchester sports competitions.

Cross-Country

In September the school’s cross-country teams took part in 2 cross-country meetings at Chorlton Park. 3 girls finished in the top 10 and as a result the team finished 2nd overall and qualified for the city-wide finals in November. This is a first for the school.

The boys team also performed well and finished 7th overall. Kian finished 10th and so has also qualified for the final.

There were 100 children taking part in the boys’ and girls’ races, which shows how well our teams have done.

Tag-Rugby

Our tag-rugby team has also been in action, taking part in the East and Central Manchester heats of the Tag-Rugby competition at Broughton Park. Their record overall was: won – 4, drew – 1, lost – 3. This was enough to finish 3rd in the competition and qualify for the finals in March. Again this is a first for the school.

Girls’ Football

On 28th September our Year 4 and Year 6 girls’ football teams played in a new girls’ football league at Whalley Range High School. The first round of fixtures were friendlies and the girls did very well – losing only one the 9 games played. The competition gets serious on 19th October, when the next round of fixtures are played.

On Wednesdays Miss McNight is running a running and fitness club for Year 3 and Year 4 children. On Thursdays, 2 of our new teachers – Miss Hargreaves and Miss Defoe – are running a netball club for Year 5 and Year 6 girls.
