Stroud High School Student Support Fund

1. Overview

The Governors maintain a fund which is available for students to apply to for funding to support their school studies and educational activities.

The following list is not exclusive but indicates the types of spend which may be supported by the student support fund:-

  • Contributions towards Educational Visits
  • School uniform
  • Sports kit
  • Music Tuition
  • Books or equipment used for school

2. Contributions

In most cases the school will contribute a proportion of the total cost, as detailed in the table below:-

Category / School Contribution
Educational visits / 50% up to a maximum of £200
School Uniform / Sports kit / 50% up to a maximum of £100
Music Tuition / 50% up to a maximum of £100
Books and equipment / 50% up to a maximum of £100

3. Eligibility

All students may apply to the fund. Some of the funding is only available to students who are eligible under the ‘Ever 6’ Free School Meal definition, ie are currently in receipt of free school meals or have been eligible at any time in the previous 6 years. The school maintains a list of the ‘Ever 6’ students in the Finance Office.

4. Fund value

Each academic year the Governors will decide the total value of the fund, and the sources of the funding; specifically that portion which is derived from the Pupil Premium and that portion contributed from the funding and donations received by the school.

As the Student Support Fund is limited to a value set by the Governors each year (for academic year 2013-14 this is set at £5,000) the intention is to support the greatest number of most deserving students.

5. Application

  • Applications should be made in writing to the Headteacher, using the Stroud High SchoolStudent Support Fund application form (see next page).
  • Only one application per student may be made in any academic year, save in exceptional circumstances.
  • Applications may be submitted at any time during the academic year.
  • Student SupportFund applications will be considered by a Fund Panel comprising the Headteacher, Finance Officer andBusiness Manager.
  • Students’ attendance and behaviour will be taken into account by the Panel when reviewing applications.
  • Tutors and Head of Years will be consulted to ensure that the most deserving students are supported.
  • The Panel will meet when there are sufficient applications to be considered and at least 6 times per year (once per term).
  • Applicants should be aware that the funding available is limited and that once the money has been used up we will unfortunately not be able to consider any further applications until the following academic year.

6. Appeals

Appeals should be addressed to the Clerk of the Governors at the school.

The Governors’ Finance Committeewill act as the Appeals Panel and will determine upon appeals where funding has been refused.

The minutes of the Appeal Committee will be confidential.

The decision made by the panel on the level of funding is final.
