“For in it the righteousness of God is revealed through faith for faith;

as it is written, "The one who is righteous will live by faith."

(Rom 1:17 NRS)

This was the Scripture verse that changed everything! Five hundred years ago, an Augustinian monk who feared the wrath of God in his life was enlightened to the overwhelming grace and love of Christ in his life, and in the life of all who believe and have faith! This verse, and that monk, strengthened by the presence of God in his life, literally started something that changed the world! Want to know more? The Adult Forum would be a good place to start. Read on….

This Sunday, October 30th, is Reformation Sunday! We will start our year-long observance of the 500th anniversary of the Reformation. This month in the Adult Forum we will begin our DVD series on the “Roots of the Reformation.” We will talk of Luther, and of the beginnings of the Reformation across Europe. It should be a good series with good discussions. I hope you plan on attending!

Thanksgiving is early this year! On Sunday night, November 20th, at 7 p.m., our church will host the Thanksgiving Worship Service. Following the service, there will be a time of fellowship and refreshments with our friends from other churches in the area. Please plan on joining us for worship that night. We are asking everyone to bring in a canned good for the Food Pantry, and all offerings that night will go to the Food Pantry. We have so much to be thankful for in our church! This is a good way to begin Thanksgiving week, by worshipping and praising our Lord!

Advent Starts on November 27th. Mid-week Advent services start November 30th.

Wow. These will be the subject of another letter later in the month. God bless you all! See you in church!

Congregational Council Meeting Minutes

St. Paul’s Evangelical Lutheran Church

Ministry Team Reports

Property – A wasp nest has yet to be conquered.

Preschool – There are currently 13 students registered for the fall.

Worship/Music/Altar Guild – The next meeting will be on November 5.

Relay for Life – Virginia Ankeny indicated there is an upcoming fundraiser for Relay for Life through Hoss's Restaurant.

Outreach – Virginia Ankeny indicated the genealogy presentation by Cindy Martin on October 19 will be for everyone. There will be a Red Cross blood drive on October 11. She added there were 24 quilts dedicated and shipped for LWR. Ed Vorhauer stated the Sequanota auction will be on October 22.

Pastor Kevin indicated he will make a donation to Sequanota for the quilt that was presented to him.

Shelby Livingston stated that Saturday's Kitchen has asked if our congregation is willing to volunteer again in the upcoming year for helping at Saturday's

Kitchen. They have also asked if anyone would be interested in making food/cookies for Christmas. Pastor Kevin made a motion for St. Paul's to do two events with Saturday's Kitchen in the upcoming year (hopefully Saturdays) with fundraising to cover the costs, seconded by Carol Fox. The motion carried. Steve Kauffman suggested that the youth also be included again for these events.

Unfinished Business: None

New Business:

1.  Breanna McGhee made a request to have fundraising painting parties for the Blacklick Valley Spanish Club and Remembering Adam Club on Saturday, November 5 and Sunday, November 6 (if needed) in Luther Hall. Steve Kauffman made the motion to permit Breanna's use of Luther Hall on November 5 and 6 for these purposes, seconded by Virginia Ankeny. The motion carried.

2.  Pastor Kevin indicated that the ELCA Foundation representative will be here to preach on Sunday, February 12. She can also do a presentation on gifts and estate planning. It was suggested that this would be an option for the annual congregational meeting.

3.  A letter received was from Elizabeth Bolton Penna tendering her resignation from council. Carol Fox made a motion to accept Elizabeth Bolton Penna's resignation from council with regret, seconded by Ed Vorhauer. The motion carried.

4.  Dave indicated there are two council vacancies. After discussion on how to fill the vacancies, the consensus was for all council members to ask other church members if

they would be interested in filling an 11-month vacancy. If so, the names are to be given to Jim Hockensmith for further action.

5.  Council members will select committees to be a member of at the next council meeting.

Next Meeting: Monday, November 7, 2016 -_7:00 p.m.

Sharing from the Heart….

Fall is here in all its glory and we are fast approaching the holidays. We love nuts to eat and include them in many of our recipes. Here's a good and simple way to have them ready for just a snack or ready to use in one of our favorite recipes.

"SWEET & SPICY NUTS"

Heat oven to 350*. In a large bowl, toss together 4 cups of mixed nuts, 2 TBSP fresh Rosemary leaves (roughly chopped), 2 tsp. Olive Oil and 1/2 tsp each Cayenne and Sea Salt flakes. Transfer to a large rimmed baking sheet. Drizzle with 1 TBSP maple syrup and toss to coat all of the nuts. Roast for 10 minutes and then stir and coat with another 1 TBSP Maple syrup. Return to the oven until lightly toasted, 8 to 10 minutes. Enjoy!
