St. Michael & St. Francis Xavier Bulletin May 27th & 28th, 2017 Pastor: Fr. Harry Tully .

Seventh Sunday of Easter

THE PRAYING DISCIPLES

Prayer is at the heart of the Christian life, yet too often we allow the days to slip by without ever turning to God in prayer. On the day of his ascension, the Lord Jesus issued his final, and perhaps strongest, mandate to the disciples. They were to go out into the world, baptizing people and telling of the commands of the Lord. Rather than jumping right to the task, the disciples gathered with others in prayer. They had learned from the words and deeds of the Master that in order to do God’s work, they had to nurture their relationship with God through prayer. We have heard Gospel accounts of Jesus retreating into a faraway place in order to spend time in prayer. The night before he died, knowing all to which he was about to be subjected, Jesus went to the Garden of Gethsemane to pray with his disciples. Now his disciples, in the days leading up to Pentecost, follow the way of the Master by spending time in prayer.

OUR CALL TO PRAYER

Perhaps God is calling us to take a serious look at our own prayer lives today. A friend of mine who recently stopped smoking told me that it was because of prayer that he was able to become free of his nicotine addiction. He said that when he really needed help he simply started talking to God, out loud. While driving to work, he would ask God for help. He said that drivers stopped in traffic next to him would give him strange looks, but that didn’t matter. He needed God’s help and his approach was quite simple. In order to do the work of helping to build God’s kingdom here on earth, we must turn to God in prayer for strength. Let us be inspired by the disciples, Mary the Mother of God, as well as the other women and men who gathered in the upper room, awaiting the outpouring of the Holy Spirit.

A Message to Our Graduates.

Christian graduates, whatever you do in life, you’ve been formed into more than professionals. You’ve been formed into disciples of Jesus Christ. We were born to make manifest the glory of God that is within us. There is something you can give the world that ordinary graduates cannot. It’s something that 12 simple men brought to the world in 33 AD. As you go, you bring the light of Christ, the light of civilization, the light of human dignity, the light of hope.

Remember what your parents see and what God sees in you. Our deepest fear is not that we are inadequate. Our deepest fear is that we are powerful beyond measure. We need you to remind us who He is and who we are.

Seventh Sunday of Easter

Theme: Jesus gives us special gifts…

Easter-The sound of Alleluias fills the 50 days of Easter Sunday to Pentecost as we give thanks for the gift of our salvation. The Easter Triduum recalls the passion and resurrection of Christ in the sacred journey from Holy Thursday to Easter Vigil, “Dying he destroyed our death. Rising he restored our life.”

Step 1: As you hear this reading what words or phrases strike you? What in this reading touches your heart?

Step 2: Look into your life.

Children: How do you experience the peace which Christ offers us?

Youth & Adults: Jesus told us to trusts in the Holy Spirit to help guide our lives. How can you be open to what the Holy Spirit might say to you?

Prayer for Our Troops”

Dear Lord… We thank you for the lives and service of our men and women in the Armed Forces. Strengthen them and give them guidance as they stand in harm’s way to protect our nation and way of life. May they face each day of their service the same way Your Son Jesus did: with courage dignity and faith. And if it be Your will when their work is through bring them safely home. Lord please also bless the families of our troops. Reward them generously for their sacrifices which are known only to You. May we never forget those who have paid the ultimate price for our freedom and safety: those who have died in the service of our country. May they rest in peace forever with You in Your kingdom.

Special Thanks!

First to Father Tully for all his years of service and dedication in serving the people of Christ!

We would like to thank everyone who attended Father Tully’s Anniversary Party! It was a great time to spend in fellowship together and to enjoy wonderful food! It was a very special evening of celebration!
