R.E / Families and Celebrations: This unit is designed to develop the children’s knowledge and understanding of what it means to belong to, andcelebrate as, a family. The unit will focus on the Mass, thestories of the Presentation and Finding of Jesus in the Temple and the Wedding Feast at Cana as importantcelebrations in the life of the Church and Jesus. / R.E / Lent and Easter: This unit is designed to develop the children’s knowledge and understanding of Lent as a time of change and ofgrowing to be more like Jesus by following his example. Children will explore various aspects of Jesus’message and ways in which Christians can apply these toreal life situations. Children will also learn about the important events of Holy Weekand how they tell of the last days of Jesus’ life on earth. Children will develop their knowledge and understanding of the season of Easter as a celebrationof the Resurrection of Jesus. The unit focuses on theimportance of the Resurrection and its message.
Literacy / Traditional stories and fairytales: This unit will look at children becoming familiar with some popular and familiar fairytales. We will look at how the stories are similar and different. We will look at these stories using the template of ‘boxing clever’ and use this to enable to us to write our own versions of these stories and adapt them into our own versions.
Recount: Children will look at a variety of recounts (some within the theme of journeys) and look at what makes a good recount. Children will have a go at writing recounts from a variety of points of view. / Literacy / Stories about fantasy worlds: Children to link in their learning of Space and make use of the Pixar films as visual stimulus. The children will look at a range of fantasy settings from a variety of stories. Children will practise writing about and including fantasy settings within their stories and writing. Children will build up to writing their own story that is based in a fantasy land using the ‘boxing clever’ structure.
Non Fiction: Information Texts: Children will look at the layout and features of an information text. Children will then use this format to write their own information texts. Children will look at other examples in Non-fiction books and printed information texts and text mark and identify the features.
Numeracy / Time, Numbers up to 40. Revisit addition and subtraction, Count on and back in 1s, 2s, 5s and 10s, Measuring and using the correct measuring equipment for length and weight. / Numeracy / Multiplying by 2, 5 and 10. Division and sharing, patterns, puzzles. Solving problems by doubling and halving, halves and quarters of shapes and quantities and relating that to division.
Science / Everyday Materials: Children will identify and investigate the properties of different materials. We will think about why certain products are made from certain materials and what alternatives we could use. Children will carry out an investigation as to which is the best material for a particular job. / Science / Plants: Children will describe and identify a variety of common plants, including trees. They will label the different parts and begin to look at the jobs that they do. Children will investigate how to grow healthy plants and the importance of water to keep plants alive.
Computing / The children create a talking book that they can share with others. They will use sound recording equipment to record sounds and skills in saving and storing sounds on the computer. Children will understand how a talking book differs from a paper-based book. They will talk about and reflect on their use of ICT. Share recordings with an audience. / Computing / We are TV chefs:The children build on their ideas of algorithms, and being creators of digital media - starring in their own cookery show. They will experienceboth filming and editing.
P.E / Tennis coach:Children to run in different directions, stopping with control, getting ready in a balanced position, observation of the balls direction and racket skills. / P.E / Multi-skills: Children to practise and develop some different PE skills e.g throwing, catching, agility, running etc. Children will practise these skills within a variety of different games and activities.
Theme:
LowryArt / Pupils will learn about the life and works of Lowry.
They will discuss and analyse various works by him. The children will compare and contrast the scenes painted by Lowry,then draw and paint in a similar style. / Theme: / The children are going to be learning more about towns and the countryside and the similarities and differences between them.
