Please note that you can contact the surgery by phone 08.00 – 18.00 inclusive.

Appointment Times: - Doctors consult every weekday morning between 8.3010am. No appointment is necessary for these sessions.

Outwith these times all consultations are by appointment only. You can make an appointment by calling 668 4547. A separate leaflet detailing appointment times for nurses and doctors is available at reception.

You are entitled to see any of the doctors in the practice.

Telephone Advice: - If you need advice from either the doctor or the Practice Nurse please phone 668 4547 after 10.30am. If we are not available we will phone you back.

House Calls: - Please ask for a home visit only if the patient is medically unfit to come to the surgery. If possible, please telephone before 10.30am to request a home visit.

Test Results: - Please phone after 10.30am if requesting results.

Nurses: - District Nursessee housebound patients who need nursing care. Health Visitoris responsible for pre-school children. Practice Nurses work in the surgery carrying out nursing procedures, helping to manage chronic diseases, well woman & well man health promotion, travel health etc.

The practice takes in the following Postcode areas: - EH8, EH9, EH16 and parts of EH3 & EH6/7 – from the south side of Princes Street as far as Cameron Toll junctions.

New patients

If you live within the practice area you may apply to register here. You can collect the necessary forms at reception. You will be asked to provide proof of residency and photo identification. You will be offered an appointment for a brief health check although this is not compulsory.

out of hours/emergency medical care

Please always call the surgery number in the first instance and listen to the answering message. You will be directed to NHS24 who will handle your call. In the first instance trained nurses will deal with calls to this service. If you need to be seen by a doctor this will be arranged for you. PLEASE NOTE: - This is a service for EMERGENCIES ONLY and not for routine matters. Please note that all telephone calls to the service are confidential and are voice recorded for medico-legal purposes. In life threatening emergencies please call an immediate ambulance by dialling 999.

RepeatPrescriptions

You can order your prescription via our website: -

Requests can be posted in the box at reception and collected 24 hours later. Alternatively, you can send a request by post, but if you wish your prescription to be posted back then please supply stamps or s.a.e.

Patients on regular medication will be issued with a computer print out of their medication, which can be used to request repeat prescriptions.

Requests can be faxed to 667 5092

Some local pharmacies provide a repeat prescription collection service, please ask the receptionist for details.

WE NO LONGER TAKE REPEAT PRESCRIPTION REQUESTS OVER THE TELEPHONE – this is for your own safety as well as ours. Mistakes are less likely to be made if the orders are placed in writing. If you are housebound and unable to use any of the above methods, please contact reception for advice.

data protection/confidentiality – Your medical records are confidential. We aim to respect confidentiality at all times. The entire practice staff is bound by this duty and we would treat any breach of this extremely seriously. You can find details of how we use patient information on the Patient Notice in the Waiting Room. If you wish to access your medical records, please ask a member of staff to help you.

complaints - We operate a practice complaints procedure as part of a NHS system dealing with complaints, and in accordance with the national criteria. If you have a complaint or concern about the service you have received from the doctors, or any of the staff working in this practice, please let us know. Please ask at reception for a copy of the procedure or find details on our website.

rights and responsibilities

You will be treated as an individual with dignity, courtesy and respect at all times, irrespective of your ethnic origin, religious belief, sex or sexuality, or the nature of your health problems.

You Have the Right To: -

Consult with a GP within 24 hours for urgent medical problems

Access a doctor outwith normal surgery hours

Have your treatment explained to you

Gain access to an interpreter

Complain, without discrimination, if there is a problem

Have a relative or friend with you (except in extreme cases when specifically asked not to)

You Are Responsible For: -

Making and keeping appointments. Please notify the surgery in good time if you are unable to attend

Behaving in an acceptable manner. Abusive or violent behaviour towards staff, nurses or doctors will never be tolerated. Violent or abusive patients will be removed from our practice list. We will call the police if we feel threatened.

Keeping young children in your care under constant supervision and ensuring that they behave appropriately

Switching off mobile phones whilst on the surgery premises

Informing the practice of any change of name, address or telephone number.
