Did You Know? …During an anti-Catholic campaign in Mexico, a soldier from the Mexican army disguised as a worshipper placed a bomb in a pot of flowers beneath the image of Our Lady of Guadalupe near present-day Mexico City. Though windows shattered several blocks away, the image and the glass case were left unharmed.

Scientists have discovered some miraculous qualities of the tilma(cloak) on which appears the image of Our Lady of Guadalupe. For example, under normal conditions the plant fibers that were made to make the tilmausually wear out after about 50 years. However, the tilmaofOur Lady of Guadalupe shows absolutely no deterioration after 482 years, including a period of over 100 years when it was left unprotected from smoke, dust, heat, humidity and frequently handling. NASA scientists have discovered that the colors on the image are not made from any known material on earth. Even more miraculous is that the colors actually "float" roughly 3/10 of a millimeter above the tilma. The Virgin's eyes on the tilma exhibit the same quality as a human eye as her pupils dilate and contract in response to light and darkness. Some scientists have also discovered that the temperature of the tilmaremains a stable 98.6 degees, our normal body temperature, and that heartbeats of a child (Christ) have been heard when a stethoscope was placed on the womb of Mary. The Church honors Our Lady of Guadalupe each year on December 12th.

Our Lady of Guadalupe, pray for us!
