Dear Parents and Guardians

Last Sunday we celebrated the feast of Pentecost, which is about the power of the Holy Spirit coming upon the disciples and energising them to set about their mission of continuing the ministry of Jesus.

For the weeks following the death of Jesus the disciples had lived in fear and confusion, not fully understanding what had happened and not really knowing what to do. When they realised that the Spirit Jesus had breathed upon them was really present and urging them to action they finally had the courage to begin the mission that Jesus had entrusted to them: to spread the Good News of Jesus and continue to realise his message in the world.

Living the Gospel – Come, Holy Spirit

‘Come, Holy Spirit’, has become the basis of countless prayers and hymns over many hundreds of years. To this day, it remains a powerful invocation that can be used in prayer or meditation. Three simple words convey a wealth of meaning. The invitation for the Spirit to ‘Come’ indicates recognition of the need for the Spirit’s intervention and openness to accept the guidance that the Spirit brings. It is a powerful, simple prayer that can be used at the outset of any significant undertaking or whenever you find yourself in need of inspiration.

Questions for Adults

Have you ever had an experience of being aware of the Spirit’s presence/action?

Where in your life could you use the guidance and strength of the Spirit?

Lidia Goodwin

SCHOOL RENEWAL

Every four years we go through a process of reviewing where we have come from and planning for the future. In order to assist this process there will be a School Closure day on MONDAY 27TH MAY

Michael Hanney from the Catholic Education Office will facilitate the day. He will also be attending the next P & F Meeting on Tuesday 28th May to gather information from parents. He will lead a process with the parents to gather information. This will ensure that the strategic plan we come up will take into account as much feed back as possible.

All parents are invited to attend.

SPORTS EQUIPMENT DONATION

The Trafalgar and Community District Bank have supported our School by donating sports equipment for the students to use.

Thank you to Tanya Stanley and Noah who represented our school at a function held in Yarragon where they accepted the equipment on our behalf.

FAMILY LIFE EDUCATION

Family Life Education is offered biennially in everyPrimary

School intheDiocese of Sale, tochildren in Grades 1 to 6.

It isbeing offered in our school in June

Thursday June6th Grades 1/2 7.00pm

PLEASE NOTE CHANGE OF DATE

Wednesday June 12th Grades 3/4 7.00pm

Wednesday June 19th Grades 5/6 7.00pm

The basic aim of the Program is to give children an appreciation of the unique family unit to which they belong and to enhance communication in the important area of Human Development, Human Relations and Sexuality. Emphasis is placed on Christian values and the dignity of the human person.

The Catholic Church affirms the value and necessity of wisely planned education of children in human sexuality. This is seen as the right and indeed, duty of parents. It does, however, also stress the role which the school can play in this area of education.

Some parents find difficulty with this area of their child’s education and ask for assistance. The Family Life Education Program seeks to help and support parents with this task.

I strongly urge you to mark these dates in your diary and make the effort to attend with your child on the appropriate date.

A note with an outline of the presentation will be sent home closer the date.

VOLUNTEERS

WORKING WITH CHILDREN CHECK

Moved House? Changed jobs or where you volunteer?

Any Parent, Grandparent or other person volunteering in a school in any capacity, including School Board, Parent and Friends members, Parent Helpers in the classroom or taking part in an excursion or school camp MUST have a current Working With Children Check. It is a vital and integral part of helping protect children from harm and it is your responsibility to tell the Department of Justice when your personal details change. It is easy:

  • Visit the website and update your details at any time:
  • Call the Information Line on 1300 652 879 during business hours (8.30am-5.00pm, Mon-Fri)

Failure to notify changes in employer and voluntary work within 21 days may incur penalties. If you hold a current WWCC but have not nominated St Joseph’s as one of your volunteer organizations, please do so by contacting the Department of Justice as above. That way each time you renew your WWCC we will be notified too as we are required to hold this information on file. Renewal application forms are mailed directly to cardholders, so it is important that the Department of Justice is notified of your current address.

This means that in future only parents with a WWCC will be able to attend excursions and help out with reading etc.

Japanese Day

As part of the school’s curriculum in engaging with Asia, Jo Kondo organised a day of cultural experiences. The day started with a short opening ceremony where each grade sang a song in Japanese, and thenstudents participated in a wide range of activities throughout the morning. There was a Sushi demonstration with Rui Nakamura, Origami and Calligraphy presented by Miyuki Sasaki, Kimono's to try on and a selection of popular Japanese program's and books were shown in the library. The highlight of the day was A.YA, a 3 piece Band playing traditional Japanese instruments performing for the whole school. St Joseph's was very fortunate to have secured this highly sought after duo who entertained everyone with the wonderful sounds of Japanese flutes, drums and guitar.

Mrs Kondowould like to say a special “Thank you” to Nathan Snape for his technical support & willingness to help on the day.
