Gospel: Jesus is given two names, Jesus means to save and Messiah means God with us. His presence will accomplish what his name means – a saving presence. The prophecies are going back 3000 years but it is up to us to continue to fulfil them.

Our sympathies and prayers go to the O Sullivan family at the Bridge House on the death of Noeleen

We remember also in our prayers Sean O’ Sullivan brother of Paudy, late of Trafrask and Thomastown, Co Kilkenny

Our sympathies to the Family of Anna Murphy late of Eyeries

May they and their loved ones find peace in their passing to the Lord.

DON’T BE LONELY THIS CHRISTMAS

Senior Help Line, Ireland’s only national listening service for older people, will be open every day over Christmas and the New Year from 10 am to 10 pm.

We are here to take your call if you are on your own, feeling isolated, worried or would like someone to talk to.

Christmas can be a sad time for many people, and in the midst of apparent universal gaiety, some of us can feel very alone.

Senior Help Line volunteers are trained older people who understand the ups and downs of life, and are happy to listen, to keep company and to support.

So let us put the companionship into Christmas this year.

Reflections on the letters that make up the word “Advent”

A-Awakening;Weare preparing to celebrate the most important event in the history of the world. We need to be awake to this opportunity.

D- Divine; Taking on humanity; Jesus humbled himself to become the human face of God. He invited us to follow him.

V- Vocation; Christ came with a call for everybody. This call is captured in the great commandment. Love God and Love your neighbour

E- Endings;the coming of Jesus brought an end to the old ways- eye for eye, tooth for tooth; with this ending comes a possibility of a golden era of love.

N- Neighbour- Jesus did not come as and idealist. The free response to his loving invitation requires concrete action on behalf of our neighbour, by their faith they shall be known

T- Transformation-Jesus came to issue a real challenge. Christians are called to transform a world marked by violence and injustice. They are to be salt of the earth
