Complaints Policy and Procedures

At St. Mary’s School we recognise that from time to time parents may wish to make a complaint about the school and what it provides for its pupils or about a member of staff.

The Governing Body has set up procedures that will hopefully enable complaints to be resolved quickly.

Parents may use the school’s Complaints Procedure if they believe that the Governing Body are failing:

·  To provide the National Curriculum in the school or for a particular child.

·  To follow the law on charging for school activities.

·  To provide RE and daily collective worship.

·  To carry out any other statutory duty relating to the curriculum.

·  Is acting unreasonably in any of the above cases.

Procedures

Step 1

It is hoped that a complaint can be resolved informally through discussion with the class teacher.

Step 2

If the complaint cannot be resolved it should be referred to the Head Teacher.

Any allegations against a member of staff should be brought directly to the attention of the Head Teacher

Step 3

If the Head Teacher cannot resolve the complaint then a formal procedure will begin that is referred to the Chair of the Governing Body.

If the complaint or allegation is against the Head Teacher then a member of the governing body should be involved immediately.

In dealing with complaints the Governing Body will ensure that the person complaining is given fair treatment and a chance to state their case in person or in writing.

Decisions and reasons for them will be given in writing and the person complaining will be informed at the same time of their rights of appeal, if they wish to take the matter further.

Timescales will be set for completing actions so that the process does not take too long.

A record of all complaints made will be kept in school.

Step 4

If the Governing Body cannot resolve the complaint it may be referred to the Diocese or Swindon LA.
