St Bart’s is a very special place. There is a ‘family’ feel about the school and a sense of real belonging for everyone who joins our school community. At St Bart’s we are excited about life and learning and dare to chase our dreams.

We share and subscribe to five core values which are at the heart of everything we do at St Bart’s. These are expressed by a memorable acronym – BARTS – which stands for Believe, Achieve, Respect, Trust and Succeed. Our core values ensure that everyone, from children to teachers, governors to parents and visitors from the local and wider community, feel safe and happy to take responsibility for their own lives, achieving their very best in a positive and nurturing environment.

We are immensely proud of our creative curriculum which we believe is engaging, challenging, motivational and always relevant to our children’s lives as they learn and grow in the 21st century.

We have strong links with St Bartholomew’s Church. The whole school community participates in weekly collective worship sessions at the church which is enthusiastically led by either Reverend Mary Bowden or our Youth Minister, Sandy Clarke.

We warmly invite parents and carers into our classrooms at every opportunity because we recognise the very important role they play in their children’s education. The POBs (Parents of Bart’s) meet regularly and support the school in many different ways, including raising money through Christmas and Summer Fairs, quizzes and band nights as well as providing refreshments at school events and organising parental support for school trips.

As a Church of England school, Religious Education and Collective Worship are an integral part of the curriculum and school life. Children receive religious teaching based upon the Diocesan Guidelines for Religious Education, which contain some specific doctrinal teaching. The children are encouraged to value themselves and grow in self-confidence, to behave as responsible individuals and to show care and understanding towards others. Collective Worship is conducted each day by members of the school staff, the rector, our church youth minister, visitors and the children themselves. They include opportunities for children to take part in worship through singing, prayers, reading, drama and other creative activities. Parents are very welcome to join us on some of these occasions and also on our regular visits to the parish church of St Bartholomew’s.

At St Bartholomew’s we believe that PE is integral to a happy and healthy life. Children learn the importance of taking care of their bodies and are exposed to different waysthey can achieve and maintain fitness for life. All children are taught the importance of competing with themselves to strive for ‘faster, higher, stronger’ results. These results are celebrated on individual terms. Children are also taught the life skills of teamwork and collaboration through team sport. We provide exposure to many different games within the curriculum and through school clubs. Through competition comes the development of sportsmanship. Children are encouraged and challenged to give their personal best to a team, learning to work with others to strive for a successful outcome. Whether it is sharing the experience of winning or learning to accept the disappointment of defeat graciously, competition provides the opportunity to develop character as well as physical talent and skills.

The school also offers residential opportunities and class learning is often enhanced by an offsite visit or by welcoming a visitor to school. Children learn effectively through real experiences and we work hard to include this within our curriculum teaching

We have an Inclusion Leader and Home School Link Worker to support the work of the teaching staff. We also have a dedicated PE Sports Coach to enhance the provision for the teaching of PE during timetabled lessons, extend our capacity for a broad range of extra-curricular sporting opportunities and develop the expertise of the teaching staff. French is taught to all year groups by a specialist French teacher, ensuring continuity and progression as the children move up through the school.

The school was inspected by Ofsted in February 2017and graded ‘good’. We were also judged as good in our SIAMS (Statutory Inspection of Anglican and Methodist Schools) inspection in July 2015 with Outstanding leadership and management.
