Oxford Comparative Criticism and Translation at St Anne’s College Oxford

Grade 7 band 1 (£30,434pa) at 0.4 FTE

Fixed term contract for 2 years subject to 6 month probation period.

Oxford Comparative Criticism and Translation (OCCT), the research programme based in St Anne’s College Oxford and the Oxford Research Centre for the Humanities (TORCH), is seeking to appoint a programme co-ordinator. This two-year post, which would suit a post-doctoral researcher, represents an exciting opportunity to work at the heart of an innovative and wide-ranging research programme. The successful applicant will organise seminars, conferences, and public events such as Oxford Translation Day; administer the Oxford-Weidenfeld Translation Prize; write website content; help to generate funding applications; collaborate in the editing of publications; produce podcasts; handle publicity; and develop connections with schools. The post will be based in the Centre for Comparative Criticism and Translation at St Anne’s College, and will be instrumental in furthering OCCT’s goals. The ideal candidate will have research interests in the area of Comparative Criticism and Translation, and will have skills in events organisation, website management and social media.

Job Title:Programme Co-Ordinator, St Anne’s College Research Centre

LocationOxford

Reports to:Professor Matthew Reynolds

Hours per week:14.5 hours.

Salary:£30,434pa pro rata (£12,173 pa actual)

Start date:Monday 19th October, or as soon as possible thereafter

Principal responsibilities

1. Communications

-publicise the activities of the Centre via the website, facebook and Twitter, writing, editing and publishing copy

-draft the weekly blog

-communicate with OCCT’s collaborators both nationally and internationally, including our

partners Université Paris III La Sorbonne Nouvelle

-edit and post seminar podcasts

-write accounts of seminars for dissemination via the OCCT website

2. Organising Academic Activities and Events

-organise and record OCCT seminars

-organise the annual conference at St Anne’s

-organise the annual ‘Oxford Translation Day’ at St Anne’s

-administer the Oxford-Weidenfeld Translation Prize

-liaise with the Development Office to invite interested alumnae to OCCT events at St

Anne’s, strengthening alumnae support for and engagement with the project

3. Funding

-help identify funding opportunities for OCCT

-work on grant applications for further funding for the Centre’s activities. The post holder will

work closely with academics and researchers in the application process for funding

4. Publications

-share editorial work on publications, including the online forum Comparative Critical Review and volumes for Transcript, the Legenda book series connected to OCCT

5. Education

-develop contacts with schools, for instance in collaboration with the Oxford German

Network or the Oxford City Schools Poetry Hub at Oxford Spires Academy

Person Specification

Essential experience:

The applicant should have research experience in the field of comparative criticism and translation.

They should:

-have experience of and aptitude for the organisation of conferences, seminars and public events

-have experience of and aptitude for writing content for websites, social media and print publications

-have aptitude for writing grant applications

Desirable experience

-Involvement in OCCT or a similar collaborative research programme

-teaching experience at school or university level
