Team Participant Rules and Guidelines

  • Attending parents/appointed guardians will be directly responsible for the safety and welfare of their children only at times when their allocated managers have directly released them into their care.
  • Parents and guardians need to be satisfied that they are conversant with all aspects of the interstate experience, have signed the appropriate authorisations and have provided sufficient information through the paperwork provided to ensure that your son/daughter will be able to participate in all listed activities, including excursions, safely, confidently and with your full authority.
  • All students are required to attend all scheduled events that are part of the interstate program. This will include ceremonies and the educational excursion. Attendance at all organised events is compulsory.
  • Team uniforms will be worn at all appropriate times. Competitors are obliged to wear their designated team uniform during competition. Variations are not acceptable.
  • The team officials will assume full duty of care for each student for the duration of the event. The only variation to this situation rests with a transfer of duty of care to an accompanying parent or guardian. Each official will be available 24 hours a day to respond to any need expressed to him or her by their team members.
  • Families are also requested to provide a contact name and number for a person other than those travelling with the team so that in any eventuality it is possible to seek advice or provide information should the need arise.
  • School Sport WA, through their appointed management staff, will, on behalf of the DoE, assume full responsibility for the health and welfare of all students placed in their care providing that in all cases the student has adhered to team conditions laid down.
  • Individual requests for special case consideration on variations to team membership guidelines will always be considered but not necessarily granted if the request does not comply with SSWA and DoE policy as it applies to duty of care provisions. The team and group arrangements will always take precedence over perceived individual need.
  • Any special requests for participant release from the scheduled daily program will be treated individually and will only be authorised in consultation with the designated team officials.
  • Student participants who are not accommodated with the team.
  • Must provide contact details of their private accommodation.
  • Must be in attendance at all times designated by the team manager.
  • Must participate in all aspects of the program with other team members.
