SSR Layered Assessment (Deller, LA 1)

To guarantee a grade of a C:

o  Complete written SSR Assessment in class.

As long as you’ve put the effort forth, have complete answers, and have proved that you’ve read your book, you will earn at least a 70% for completing this step alone.

To guarantee a grade of a B:

o  Complete written SSR Assessment in class, AND

o  Complete a book review for your book and publish it online through Mr. Pantaleo’s iLearn site:

1.  Go to the Dearborn Schools website: www.dearbornschools.org

2.  Under “Online Tools” tab, go to iLearn

3.  Log in with your Student ID and password

4.  Type, “DHS Book Reviews” into search box and click “search”

5.  Click on “DHS Book Reviews”

6.  Enroll yourself by clicking “Enroll Me”

7.  Next, click on “Book Review”

8.  (Optional) Look at other book reviews to get an idea of what one looks like

9.  When you’re ready, click the “Add Entry” tab

10.  Complete book review in its entirety… the ONLY part you should be skipping is the “Your Video Review” part.

Remember that a book review is detailed in some respects, but does not give away the main plot points or ending of the book. You are trying to promote or not promote your book with good reasons for why you have your opinions.

11.  When done, click “Save and View” and be sure it has uploaded

As long as you’ve put the effort forth, have followed directions, and completed all steps for the book review, you will earn at least an 80% for completing the above two options.

BOOK REVIEWS MUST BE POSTED BY TUESDAY, December 17th (by midnight)

To guarantee a grade of an A:

o  Complete written SSR Assessment in class,

o  Complete a book review for your book and publish it online through Mr. Pantaleo’s iLearn site (directions above), AND

o  Present your review/do a brief book talk in front of the class on December 18-20th. You must be ready to go on any of these days if called on. This is what you should present:

·  The title/author of your book

·  Your review (include: something interesting about your book (a character, some of the plot, setting, topic, etc.) and if you were to recommend this book, who would you recommend it to and why?)

·  Pick a short passage from the book to read aloud to the class. This should be one of your favorites and a passage that will grab the audience’s attention and maybe make them want to read the book. EXPLAIN why you chose that passage.

As long as you’ve put the effort forth by coming prepared for your presentation, have followed the above directions for what to include in your presentation, and give the class an honest and well-thought out view of your book, you will earn at least an 90% for completing the above three options.
