Next Meeting: January, date and time to be announced

Jim Graham, Chairman, called the meeting to order at 11:35am. The minutes from the previous meeting were accepted. Pat Sweeney recorded the minutes until 12:40 at which time the honorable Jim Bossardt recorded the remaining items in discussion. Six items were discussed. Each item follows:

Item 1 – 2005 Officers

A discussion of the officers for 2005 was discussed. All four of the officers noted that they would be willing to continue on in the their current position for 2005 if that is what the committee decided. Jim Spaulding made a motion to keep all 2004 officers in place for the year 2005: Jim Graham as Chair, Jim Bossardt as Vice-Chair, Pat Sweeney Secretary, and Jay Kranker as Treasurer. Art Pedroza seconded the motion, which was passed with out any dispute. Pat Sweeney would notify Melissa at National about the 2005 officers.

Item 2 – C1/C2 Classes for 2005

The Chapter will once again offer and hold the C1 and C2 classes. Techno Coatings has approved the use of their Anaheim, CA facility. April 4th through the 8th was selected as the period that the classes will be offered. Eric Anderson was selected to be the chair of the education committee for the classes. Dr. Drisko noted that it would be better this time around to have 3 instructors to break up the long week. Pat Sweeney volunteered to be an instructor. It is assumed that Dr. Drisko and Dan Zarate will act as the other two. The new committee will investigate new options such as a morning coffee service and possibly purchasing a refrigerator. Jim G, Jay, and Pat (the past three education chairmen) will meet to develop some form of standard class preparation manual.

Item 3 – Scholarships

Jim provided in the past a standard policy for scholarships. We all agreed that word of this opportunity needs to get out to the industry. Pat Sweeney would list it on the website. It was noted that Art was to provide a list of local trade/education schools for us to contact about postings. We also need to develop a flyer to advertise at the National. We decided that a March 1 deadline for submittals would be noted. We also need to get a new updated list of members. This list can also be used to get the word out, and attract the new members to be more active.

Item 4 – Upcoming Events

The National will be January 23rd through 26th. So any local events around this time would be difficult. However, regarding the National we need to get two things. First a Banner for the Southwest US chapters ( including NoCal and AZ) to display at the National booth that SSPC will provide our area. We also need to purchase a stamp so that we can indicate on the new member application forms that we “claim” them as a product of our efforts. National Liquid Blasting (NLB) is very interested in providing a demonstration at their new facility in Signal Hill, CA. Jim G has been in contact with them. We all need to think about another topic. The date for this event is Tuesday, March 8th.We then have the classes in April. The summary of 2005 events are as follows:

January 24-26 - PACE 2005 Show in Las Vegas

March 8 - Equipment demo-tentatively NLB facility (waterjetting)

April 4-8 - C1/C2 course at Techno

Jim G asked for all members to continue to seek and make suggestions for future events. Jay Kranker offered that a talk on osmotic blistering that John Palo recently gave could be an option.

Item 5 – SoCal Chapter SSPC Outstanding Service Award

At the July meeting this award was created and approved by the committee. Art Pedrosa was presented with the first Award for his involvement in the Chapter’s success. The award included a plaque and a gift certificate. Pictures of the presentation will be uploaded to the web-site.

Item 6–Other Business

Jim S asked that any past sign-up sheets for events be forwarded to him so that he can contact them about membership to the chapter.

Meeting was adjourned at 1:00pm
