Soil health card scheme - A Success story of Sri Chittaranjan Panigrahi Block- Balipatna Dist- Khordha of Odisha State.
The simplicity of the farmers, the unique way of living, their tradition and culture instantly fascinate everyone. At the same time there have been concern and effort from all the sections of the Government to provide sustainable livelihood options. There have been several experiments but the real success is far away. The questions often debated are; who needs change more, is it the farmers or we? Did the plan and proposals look into their requirements? There lies a village namely Biswanathpur under Garedi panchan Gram Panchayat in Balipatna Block of Khordha district in which lives Sri Chittaranjan Panigrahi, a progressive farmer with 5.00 acres of agricultural land. Since last 8 years, he has practaising paddy cultivation, from last 2 years he followed Rice- Moong cropping pattern. He used to consult local Assistant Agril Officer for agronomic practice in general and to control disease/pest in particular. He did not cared to go for soil test though he was aware of that during meeting/training/campaign by massmedia etc. However due to launching of Soil Health Card scheme in the state, soil sample collected from his land (Grid ) and the test report ( Soil Health Card) was given to him along with 4 other farmers. The baby step promises to turn into a big stride soon and transform the way of the farmer towards higher livelihood options by curtailing expenditure on fertilizer cost

Farmers like Avaya Sahu, Bharat Behera and Sekh Shamsuddin of Biswanathpur village ; Babuni Swain from Garedipanchan and Sanju Pradhan and others of Rajas G.P are planning for sustainable crop production. Almost all the farmers in the locality are now convinced on the importance of soil test and to reduce the expenditure on fertilizer cost by using the balanced dose as per the recommendation in SHC by incorporating the organic and bio-fertilizers along with micronutrient and planning
