My scope of work includes the Integration of IDS RTU with the existing PLC networks in the site and to communicate the RTU to the DEWA Control centre.

2) Surge protection device for the transmission pipeline network- RFX 69

-Devices used: IDS RTU, Advantech HMI, Auma Actuator, Atlas Copco Air Compressors, etc.

-Client: Al Hijaz Mechanical Equipment Co. LLC

-End User: Dubai Electricity & Water Authority ( DEWA)

The process consists of a surge tank with 5 level switches mounted on it for checking the level of water inside. The level and pressure in the surge tank can be monitored from SCADA with the help of level and pressure transmitters. The status of level switches and transmitter values are also displayed in Local HMI. On the basis of level of water inside, the Solenoid valves connected to the inlet and outlet of the Surge tank will operate to maintain the water level in normal inside the tank. This is achieved through the supply of pressurized air from Air compressor. Tank is connected to Motorized valves in the system and the motorized valve is controlled from SCADA and values are also displayed in HMI. RTU is communicating to SCADA using IEC 60870 protocol over GPRS. RTU is communicating to HMI and MBV over Modbus.Air compressors is communicated to RTU using Modbus. Aircompressor operational logic is performed from PLC.

2)Programming for building management system

-Devices used: AB Micrologix 1400 and Compactlogix PLC’s, AB FT view SCADA SE, Schneider Conzerv EM6400, Areva Communication Relays

-Client: TCS Chennai

There is a PLC for Controlling the breakers and other I/O's, one for communicating with Energy Meters and another one for BMS. The different parameters like Voltage, Current, PF, Frequency etc are transferred from the 32 energy Meters to the PLC using Modbus and finally it's displayed in the SCADA system. Also the values from the Energy meter PLC are transferred to the BMS PLC using Master slave communication.

3)Automation of the Nitrogen filling process for bushing 400 area

-Devices used: AB Compactlogix PLC with RIO’s connected using DeviceNet communication, AB Panelview HMI and AB FT view SCADA, FT view SE & ME

-Client: Alstom T&D , Hosur

This process is done for the manufacture of the product called CVT. In this process, the duration of nitrogen filling can be set from HMI or scada. There should be a min supply pressure for the process to start. During the filling process, if any leakage occurs and if the level of nitrogen falls down below the set value, that product will be rejected.

4)Automation of the Oil filling area and the movement of values to database

-Devices used: Compactlogix PLC with RIO’s, Panelview, FT view and Yokogawa wireless Sensor

-Client: Alstom T&D, Hosur

This process is done for the filling of Oil into the manifold during the manufacture of Transformers. The level of oil is determined using a wireless sensor that is being communicated to PLC using Modbus communication. The filling and settling time can be set form HMI or scada. There is a main valve and 13 section valves in each area. Like that 8 areas are there. We have to calculate the valve open time and valve open counts for each valve and have to move these values to Database using transaction manager.

5) Leak Testing Machines for various fixtures and products:

-Devices used: Micrologix 1400, S7 1200 and Omron PLC’s, Delta, AB, Omron and Proface HMI’s.

-Clients: HUL, Toyota, Nissan, Ford, Hyundai

The aim of the project is to check the air leakage of the components under test. Test is done using PLC, HMI and pressure transmitter. Initially we will set the min. and max. pressure and the permissible leak value from HMI. Minimum and Maximum pressure will be set in PSI or mBar, and the leak value will be in PASCAL. Then we will set the Filling time, Stabilising time and testing time from HMI. So during testing, if the current pressure is within the set range, Test pass will come. Else, test fail. All the calculations are done from PLC. Total, around 15 leak testing machines have been commissioned.

6) PVR Adjusting and Testing Machine:

-Devices Used: Omron PLC, Proface HMI, Sanyo Denki Stepper motor

-Client: HUL, China

This project consists of a PLC, HMI, flow transmitters, Level Sensors, Pumps and Stepper motor to adjust a Pressure Regulating Valve. The valve is adjusted by rotating the stepper forward or reverse until the output pressure of the valve becomes 15+/-2 psi. Calculations are done from PLC. The machine can be used either for adjusting or testing of the Valve. Selection is done from HMI. After each valve gets calibrated, a punch cylinder will make a mark on the Valve and the count will be displayed in HMI.

7) Glue Dispensing Station using ROBO:

-Devices Used: s7 1200 PLC, Delta HMI, ABB Robo

-Client: IJL, Chennai

This project consists of a ROBO used for applying the glue over the lens. When the start switch is pressed, the ROBO will initially go to home position and from there it will start its movement, purges the glue if it is idle for more than 3 min and it will reach the surface of the lens to be glued, applies the glue over the area and again goes back to home position. The glued component is then moved to the pressing unit for pressing. Different types of error conditions are created for the safe working of the unit. If the quantity of glue is low, if the ROBO is not in correct glueing position, if the quantity of purging is more, all can be displayed in HMI. ROBO is controlled from PLC.

8) Hydraulic Matress pressing Machine using PLC:

-Devices used: Omron PLC, Omron stand alone timer, Pump.

-Client: Rubco, Kerala

The aim of the project is to automate the mattress pressing machine, which is working on hydraulics. The hydraulic pressure generated will press the different beds of materials for a specific time period that can be set manually.
