How to complete a learning module

There is not a single correct way to learn. Everybody is different; some people prefer to work alone while other people prefer to work in groups. You will need to decide on the best way for you to learn.

There are a number of different ways that you can gather information. For example, you can:

·  use the resources provided in the learning module

·  search for more information by using the Internet or workplace documents

·  gather and share information with a partneror group.

Your trainer may have already decided on a learning plan for you. It is important that you discuss your preferred learning plan with your trainer.

Whatever way you decide to learn you are encouraged to record evidence of your learning in your Notes document (see page 10). You will be able to use your notes to help you with your final assessment tasks.

Assessment Options

You will find the assessment options for each learning module in the Apply it page.

Types of assessment

Task assessment

This assessment is ideal for learners who are not currently working in the cleaning industry. You will be required to answer a number of questions. These questions are available to you in:

·  Task assessment workbook – a Word document that you can download and either print it or send it to your trainer as an email attachment

·  Email format so that you can answer the questions directly into an email and send it to your trainer.

Verbal assessment

You may feel more comfortable discussing your answers with your trainer. If you decide to do this, you will need to make some notes by answering the questions in the Task Assessment Workbook. Organise a time to see your trainer so that you can discuss your answers with them.

Workplace Assessment

This assessment is suitable for learners who are currently employed in the cleaning industry. You will need to answer questions related to your cleaning tasks in the workplace. These questions are available to you in the:

·  Workplace assessment workbook – a Word document that you can download and either print it or send it to your trainer as an email attachment

·  Email format so that you can answer the questions directly into an email and send it to your trainer.

Your trainer may have already picked the type of assessment that is suitable for you. They may even require you to complete more than one type of assessment for the learning module. Make sure that you discuss your assessment options with your trainer.

Recognition of prior learning (RPL)

If you have been working in the cleaning industry you may be able to get recognition for the skills you have already developed. Recognition of prior learning (RPL) is a form of assessment that acknowledges the skills and knowledge you have gained through:

·  formal training received at work or through a training provider

·  on-the-job experience at work

·  life experience, through your hobbies or other activities.

If you decide to apply for RPL you will need to show that you already have the required skills for that unit of competency. You can to this by completing the self-assessment in the checklists that are provided for you in each learning module. Work through the self-assessment and then speak to your trainer about your options.

Your trainer will help you identify any gaps and additional training that you may require. They will also be able to give you information about the RPL process that you will be required to follow.

For learners who believe they may be eligible for recognition RPL assessment, the RPL Expressway provides detailed information on the specific performance criteria that apply to the unit, and the types of evidence they would need to present to the RTO. The RPL Expressway is also useful for learners who are self-assessing their progress and identifying any gaps in their current level of skills and knowledge.

The RPL Expressway can be accessed from the Squeak eClean Toolbox welcome page.
