Report

The 2012 Summer League season is not starting out in the best possible way for Oasis. Firstly their second team were forced to withdraw from Division Three before a ball was hit and this week, in the top division, their first team have followed up last week’s 14-3 defeat at home to East Anglia with a 15-3 reverse at home to Broadland.

In the East Anglia match Mark Nicholls did beat Jack Pearse 3-1 but straight game wins for Gareth Joubert, Ian Douglas and Ashley Briggs gave the reigning champions a comfortable victory. Against Broadland Nicholls was again in good form as he came from 0-2 down to beat Eric Plane 6-13 11-13 14-12 13-9 13-11 but again he was his team’s only winner as Rob Hambrook, Steve Moxey and Mark Heazle all won their matches 3-0.

Bannatyne’s fared even worse as they were unable to raise a team for their match at Barnham Broom which gave Broom a 16-0 walk-over.

In Division One Cromer, who went through the winter season without a victory finally came good against neighbours North Norfolk winning 13-6. Alec Burrows beat Kevin Blake 3-0, John Baker won 3-1 against Devendra Mahatme and Richard Keeble recovered from the loss of the first two games to beat Martin Guppy 3-9 6-9 9-0 9-6 9-2 in the first string match. Tim Perry who beat Stephen Watts 3-0 was North Norfolk’s one winner.

Bannatyne’s II had no trouble in fielding a team at Fakenham and they won 14-4 with both Jordan Creed and Max Dawson unsurprisingly winning their matches in straight games. Martin Browne beat Martin Jolley 3-1 while for Fakenham Ian Raisbury won 3-1 against Anthony Baines.

In Division Two Wensum Lodge and Broadland II shared the points in a 9-9 draw but there are no match details.

Broadland Hunters and Broadland III took to the courts at Fleggburgh in Division Three with the former Hunters team coming out on top 12-6. Mike Hill and Mark Woolner both won 3-1 for the third team but this wasn’t enough as captain Richard Hall and No.1 Terry Mayes both had straight game victories for Broadland H.

Finally, Cromer II won 13-7 away to Fakenham II. Stephen Watts and Martin Sanville both won their matches 3-1 and John Chandler recovered well to beat Martin Dack 6-9 7-9 9-4 9-5 9-3. Stephen Horn who beat Barry Starling 3-0 was the Fakenham team’s one winner.
