Sprockets Cycle Club Christmas 2016 Newsletter
A wonderful start.
It’s our first Club Christmas and the end of our first school term and haven’t we done well ! 14 weeks ago we started the first session with no real idea how many would arrive, nor whether there would be enough week by week attendance to justify the effort to run a club. You have beaten our expectations and we are thrilled.
We know that even in the worst of weather a committed group of youngsters will convince their parents to bring them to Sprockets and they will pedal, scoot, shout and glide their way through the session. You remind us all that the very best thing to see on a bike rider is a Smile.
To support the growth of the Club, and to ensure that we run everything properly, Sprockets submitted its application to British Cycling for the Sport England Clubmark Award. This is a National Award for which we had to prove that Sprockets Cycle Club had all the appropriate policies and procedures in place to plan, run, safeguard and financially manage a Sporting Club for Young People. We are very pleased and proud to say that our submission was accepted on first presentation and this past week we became the British Cycling’s newest Clubmark member.
Our last session this year is Reindeer Racing on the 18th of December and we are back at Bohunt at our normal times on the 7th of January 2017.
On the 14thof January there will be a combined session of Go-Ride Racing from 10am to 12.30pm. This will be run on the former football pitch alongside the Tennis Courts on Princess Marina Drive (very familiar to the Racers !). There will be a series of at least 3 races for each age group. Prizes will be awarded in each age group for both boys and girls and the races are open to riders outside the club. So bring your friends along for our very own Go-Ride Racing event. Session fees this day will be £3 for each rider so it is a very good opportunity to try our racing in a friendly non-pressured environment.We hope to see a good club turn out that day and lots of friends as well.
