Transitioning to a New School -- What You Need to Know

If you are attending a four-year college or university during fall 2012, be sure to take note of the following helpful tips:

Assume nothing! Every college has its own unique rules, policies and culture. What was true at Highline may not necessarily be true at your new school.

Attend the New Student Orientation at your transfer college.

Consider joining a Transfer Interest Group, if one is available. You will get to know other transfer students and find support.

Explore opportunities to participate in undergraduate research, internships, and

leadership opportunities. You will gain

valuable experience and enhance your

resume at the same time.

Consider forming study groups so you will get to know other students and have a “study buddy”.

If in doubt about anything, ask your adviser!

Make lots of friends, remember old ones, and don’t forget to have fun along the way!

Good luck and best wishes to you!
