Spring 2007 Textbook Orders

If you will need desk copies for your spring classes, please read thefollowing:

There is a very short period of time for us to process textbook orders for the spring semester compared to the time we have for fall book orders when much of the work can be done over the summer. If you need desk copies, please get your book order to me as soon as possible, but no later than the end of November. If you place your book order after November 30, I will not be able to order your desk copy for you. While late book orders that come in after November 30 will be entered in the system so that the bookstores can order the books for your students, the work load in December at the end of the semester won’t allow me to order your desk copies until the end of the month (at the earliest) or on into January, and that would mean that you wouldn’t receive your desk copies in time for the beginning of your spring classes. Please help me help you by completing your book orders by November 30.

Please:

~ Order as soon as you can so there will be time to manage the inevitable problems that will arisein some of the orders

for backorders and out-of-print books, communication, and replacementorders.

~ Complete the order form entirely. You can email your book order if you wish but please includeall the information.

- Include the entire ISBN, which is ten numbers in length.

- Use the most current edition, or write "current edition" in the edition line so I know it's okwith you if the old edition is

replaced by the new one.

- List the publisher and sub-publisher in the lines provided. This is necessary information, especially for desk copy

requests.

~ When you are taking a package to Rapid Print, please indicate this in the message line andname the location of the

one you chose (DeGarmo Hall or the Old Union), so it can be codedproperly in the system.

~ Desk Copies: as the note on the textbook order form indicates, desk copies should only berequested if you do not

already have one. Many publishers track distribution of desk copiesand will not fill duplicate requests. If you need to

request a desk copy, please be sure toorder early; it takes days to weeks to get them.

Thank you and let me know if you have any questions.

Council Minutes #1, August 21, 2002: Because publishers are becoming very strict about sending duplicate desk copies, faculty members who already have desk copies of textbooks being ordered for their classes are asked to refrain from requesting additional copies, unless there is a specific need. The Department Receptionist will continue placing desk copy orders with publishers; however, faculty members who make changes or additions to textbook requests within a month prior to the beginning of the semester will be asked to place their own desk copy orders with publishers. The Receptionist will continue to order desk copies for faculty members who are making late changes or additions to textbook orders due to changes in teaching assignments.
