Cricket Report:

Independent Schools Festival at St Alban’s

The 1st XI played a two day match against St John’s (Harare) and although the match ended in a draw on Friday there were some notable highlights, with Jordan Graven making 130 in Kearsney’s second innings, ably supported by Mitch Garvie and Steven Conway, making his debut for the 1st XI. On Saturday the 1st XI enjoyed a very good win against Kingswood College from Grahamstown with Brad Porteous and Jordan Graven, both performing well with the bat. Yesterday the 1st XI played against Helpmekaar and enjoyed a very good win in a 50 over match. Highlight of the match was a superb bowling spell from Matthew Lees who finished with figures of 5/5.

With the 1st XI taking part in the St Alban’s Independent Schools Festival in Pretoria, the rest of the teams played fixtures against DHS and Umhlanga College. Despite several matches not being completed due to afternoon rain, those matches that were able to be completed were all won by Kearsney teams.

The 2nd XI had an emphatic ten wicket victory over DHS on the Smith Oval, while the 15A side emerged victors by 7 wickets. Both the 14A and 16A sides were well on top against DHS when the rain came. A couple of the lower sides also enjoyed good wins over Umhlanga College – the first meeting between these two schools, and a welcome addition to our fixtures list.

Dusi Canoe Marathon

Over the weekend eightKearsney paddlers raced the Dusi Canoe Marathon.

The Dusi once again proved to be a serious challenge for all paddlers with weather conditions varying drastically from rain on day one, to intense heat on day two and thunder storms on day three.

The quality of the water did not make things easier with many paddlers suffering due to ingestion of ecoli bacteria.
