Birmingham Sport and Physical Activity Trust (Sport Birmingham) is an independent charity belonging to a powerful network of 45 County Sport partnerships across England, tasked with being the gateway to the City’s communities and ensuring that national and regional sport and physical activity resources have local reach. We work in partnership with Birmingham City Council, Sport England,local schools, charities, community organisations, National Governing Bodies of Sport, sports clubs, coaches and volunteers to create and develop accessible sporting opportunities for the communities we serve.

JOB PURPOSE

  • To create an evidence base and business case for sport and physical activity in Birmingham in order to inform and improve future practice
  • To grow Sport Birmingham’s research, insight and evaluation offer so it becomes financially sustainable
  • Increase Sport Birmingham’s knowledge of– and reach into – Birmingham’s non-active cohorts
  • To present information and communications effectively and consistently both internally and externally for maximum impact

MAIN DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

  • To collect, analyse and interpret a wide range of data and information in order for Sport Birmingham and external partners, to understand local trends in physical activity
  • To conduct both quantitative and qualitative research and evaluation of sport and physical activity projects/ programmes to inform future delivery and share good practice
  • To keep up to date with developments in research methodology, economic and statistical data, policy and good practice in similar organisations
  • To work collaboratively with partners to identify new areas of research and evaluation that could shape and drive their future programmes, and where appropriate, secure commercial revenues for services over and above standard practice
  • To ensure meaningful information is presented and communicated effectively in a consistent way both internally and externally to local, regional and national partners for maximum impact
  • To become the expert on place (Birmingham and surrounds) and people (traditional non-active cohorts)
  • To position Sport Birmingham as the ‘thought leaders’ within this field of work
  • To prepare and support grant funding applications by sourcing supporting information and evidence
  • Lead on the development of surveys and a suite of tools to help in the application of insight both within the team and to support local partners
  • To support the continued maintenance and optimisation of the Sport Birmingham website and digital platforms under the guidance of the Marketing officer
  • Assist with Research & development of content for Marketing purposes drafting promotional literature and writing and publishing news stories
  • Work alongside the Marcomms function to provide the information and support necessary to promote Sport Birmingham as the local experts in the field
  • Assist with other general tasks across the Marketing and Communications function as directed
  • To use Sport Birmingham CRM system, to ensure effective communication and that company contacts are kept up to date
  • To ensure that equity is integral to all work areas and programme development
  • To remain flexible and adaptable to any additional demand as it is confirmed, and to be available to work different hours including weekends / evenings as required
  • The post holder may be required to travel to areas in around Birmingham and surroundings
  • To attend any staff meetings or other sessions as may be required by the post, for the purposes of team or personal development

The post holder must comply with Sport Birmingham’s Health and Safety policy and in particular is required:-
