Betreff?: ChristmasVillage is coming back to town

Dear Friends of ChristmasVillage,

First of all we want to say thank you for visiting ourChristmasVillage and making the event so wonderful last year. All vendors and artists also enjoyed the event and we are proud to announce, that the event will take place again this year.

After a successful first year with 150,000 visitors, ChristmasVillage is coming back to Philadelphia. As last year it willbe located at DilworthPlaza on the west side of PhiladelphiaCity Hall. From November 26th through December 24th about 40 vendors will turn the plaza in a medival village and sell Christmas ornaments and various types of arts and crafts along with delicious European food specialties such as bratwursts, pretzels, waffles, frosted nuts, chocolate covered fruits and lebkuchen. A new highlight will be the sale of hot gluhwein (mulled wine) by a local winery. Also the booths’ decoration will be richer and the whole event will be at the street level to create a better atmosphere. There will be a mixture of local and international vendors with representatives from the local arts and crafts scene, but also German vendors for traditional Christmas items like nutcrackers, smokers and glass ornaments.

The event is supposed to offer a lot more than holiday specific gifts and food. ChristmasVillage will install a Santa’s house and a central stage to give local artists like school choirs or orchestras the chance to perform in front of a greater audience. The stage will also be located on the street level this year, to give artists a better exposure.

Of the stage there will be also various vendors with live performances, like glass-blowing, wood-carving and custom painting to show these crafts to the audience. The city’s traditional Christmas tree and thousands of lights make it also a great place to visit in the evenings.

“After our big success last year with a lot of things people really loved, we are working on great improvements to create a warmer and more Christmassy atmosphere in the very heart of Center City Philadelphia. With extended offers in all food stands as well as the new gluhwine, ChristmasVillage will also become a great lunch alternative for business people. More non-food stands as last year will make the event even more relevant for Christmas shoppers who are looking for a special present. It is great to see how the whole event can be improved continuously”, project coordinator Thomas Bauer said.

Our planning progress promises a wonderful Christmas event to enrich the Philadelphia Holiday season. More detailed information will be announced in a few weeks.
