Sponsor found for Fleet Festivities 2007

Local business lawyer Alex Colfer loved the Fleet Festivities event of 2006 so much that he has offered to sponsor the 2007 event.
Many of you will know Alex as he used to practice in Fleet with Chris Stanbury and has recently moved back to the area to open his own practice.
“Sponsoring such a positive event as the Fleet Festivities is a pleasure to do; obviously it helps to get our name out to the people of Fleet, but just as importantly it ensures the event is secure to continue for another year.”
The firm A J Colfer have stepped in and matched the funding put forward by the council towards the event last year. / Whilst the council could justify the spending on the event last year through not having a Town Centre Manager, they were unable to support the event for 2007. The council will however continue to pay and co-ordinate the street lighting through the Town Centre Manager.
Having this guarantee of funding on board so early means that we have been able to confirm all the major attractions for the event already, unlike last year when it was all put together quicker than we would have liked. Plans are under way to make the event even more extensive and interesting than last year, we are keen to keep a few surprises up our sleeve for now.
Alex has insisted that he does not want to see huge sponsored by banners all over the event and has left the event totally in the hands of the organisers.

Training Awards for Local Retailers.

A number of Fleet Retailers have been awarded a Retail Brokerage Project Certificate, in recognition of their contribution towards staff training. The awards were presented by Angela Wright, the Chief Executive of Solent Skills Quest.
“The scheme has been fantastic! Solent Skills Quest identified training needs specifically for Equinox and quickly provided the advice and training we needed to further improve our customer service.” said Tim Cockram of Equinox.
Kevin Whibley of Captured Moment was quick to take on board the training opportunity, “Although I have been doing what I do for 17 years it is still refreshing to get a second pair of eyes looking at the business for you. We have looked into every element of the business; stripping it back to basics and building it back up from base level. From pricing to marketing and where we place our advertising. It has been a very cathartic experience, and best of all it is completely free.” / Mike Archer from This ‘N’ That tells us “I was surprised at the things that they picked up on. Little things like signage and letting people know we have more retail going on at the back of the shop than they may realise. It is good to know we are doing things right, but better still to know how we can do it even better.”
Sarah and John at Mochaccinos will be joining the scheme at the end of the month, “We are really looking forward to hearing what they have to say and discovering the approach we feel is right for us.”
There are only a few opportunities left for this training so please get in touch with the organisers now, their details are given below.

Free and subsidised training opportunities.

Funded by the European Social Fund and the Learning Skills Council, The Retail Skills Partnership enables small and medium sized independent retail businesses to up skill their workforce.

GREAT NEWS!!! Fleet Carnival Promotional Opportunities

Due to a restructuring of the print and distribution of the carnival programme, the entire programme will now be in full colour, 36 pages and we will be distributing 4,000+ in the month of June and also during carnival, not only in Fleet but in surrounding towns.

In this instance, we are able to offer colour advertising and higher distribution for the same rates as previously shown for black and white, with the addition of a price for full page with bleed. Prices are as follows:

SizeHeightWidth NET VAT GROSS

Full page with bleed210mm148mm £140.00 £24.50£164.50

Full Page190mm120mm £115.00 £20.13£135.13

Half Page90mm120mm £75.00 £13.13 £88.13

Quarter Page Vertical 90mm58mm £45.00 £7.88 £52.88

Quarter Page Horizontal45mm120mm £45.00 £7.88 £52.88

Inside back cover210mm148mm £150.00 £26.25£176.25

NB: Charities, clubs and other non-profit making organisations will be allowed 20% off the above net prices, except for inside back cover. Back cover and inside front cover have already been sold.

To increase the return on your advertising and increase the saleability of the programme (which already carries £2 funfair discounts) we suggest you add a time sensitive promotion to increase your trade in quieter time periods/areas. For example, your business may be busy at the weekends, so offer a discount on Mondays or Tuesdays throughout July. You can then simply mark your advert in the programme to know it has been redeemed.

Floats – they needn’t be a drag!

Have you always wanted to put a float together but simply do not know where to start? If so 2007 is the year for you to get involved in Carnival. We can advise you on the costs involved, sourcing vehicles and have also arranged discounts with local traders for hire and materials. We can also look at finding you tradesmen and storage for building a float, to avoid the last minute rush on procession day. And remember, we can make the procession longer with walking entries as well. We can also advise on ways to interpret this year’s theme, ‘Cultures from around the World’ for either procession or window displays.

We now have over 100 Members and Associate Members.

Fleet has a wealth of Treasures.

We are asking the public to find them.

And win prizes.

The primary purpose of this competition is to show the public that we have a wealth of goods and services available in Fleet.

The second purpose is to encourage them to seek out these items by looking round the shops. Taking note where they saw them and the price.

The benefit to customers is they get to see shops they may not have noticed before.

The benefit to businesses is that they have more people coming into their shops and looking round Fleet.
