SPLIT SYSTEM AIR CONDITIONERS
PART 1 - GENERAL
1.01 SUMMARY
A.Section Includes: Include labor, materials, equipment, and accessories necessary to furnish and install split system air conditioners as shown on Drawings and specified.
1.02 SUBMITTALS
A.Shop Drawings: Submit a portfolio showing spot coolers and appurtenances for approval by Architect/Engineer. Shop Drawings shall include unit dimensions, capacity, and connections for each size submitted, in dB in each octave band at design conditions.
1.Submittal shall include a schedule of units to be used.

A.Qualifications:
1.Product Acceptance: Units shall be of the high efficiency type and shall be made by a manufacturer regularly engaged in production of such units and issuing a complete catalog data on such products.
2.Efficiency: Spot coolers shall be generated to produce an Energy Efficiency Ratio (EER) and a weighted average Coefficiency of Performance (COP) equal to scheduled values or better when tested in accordance with ARI Standards 325 and 330.

1.04 WARRANTY
A.Description: Provide 1year manufacturers warranty on parts and labor from date of Substantial Completion.
B.Extended Warranty: Provide coverage of refrigeration system and compressor for an extended time period from the end of the 1year coverage through the 5th year.

A.General Requirements: Air conditioning system is designed specifically for use in computer/data processing areas, or controlled office environments and shall be capable of cooling, humidifying, heating and filtering air. Provide quantities and system configurations as shown on Drawings.
1.Units shall be UL listed.
B.Cabinet and Frame: The frame shall be constructed of 14gauge welded tubular steel and be coated with a heavy corrosion inhibiting finish. The outer steel casing shall have removable panels for servicing. The panels shall be insulated with 1inch thick, 11/2pound density insulation. Unit to be ceiling mounted and sized to fit a standard 2footby 4foot Tbar grid ceiling opening.
C.Refrigeration System: Refrigeration system shall be split between an evaporator and condenser section and shall be selfcontained, factory assembled, charged and tested.
D.Evaporator Section: Cooling coil shall be constructed with copper tubes and aluminum fins. The circuit shall include the expansion valve with external equalizer or capillary tube metering devices depending on the application. Condensate drain pan shall be stainless steel and shall pitch toward 3/4" condensate drain connections.
1.Evaporator blower assembly shall be drawthrough configuration, consisting of a double inlet, double width, direct drive centrifugal blower.
E.Electric Motors: Refer to Section 230513, Electric Motor Schedule, or the equipment schedule for voltage and rpm requirements. Refer to Section 230513 for motor minimum efficiency.
F.Condenser Section:
1.Outdoor Air Cooled Condenser section shall contain the compressor, filter drier, sight glass, suction line accumulator, and condenser coil. The coil shall be constructed with copper tubes and aluminum fins and high and low pressure safety switches. The compressor shall have internal overload protection The condenser fan shall be variable speed for head pressure control down to minus 20degreesF and shall be double inlet, double width direct drive type. The blower shall have a 2speed motor that is controlled with temperature operated switch. The condenser blower motor electrical connection shall be through a factory wired plug.

1.Control system shall be furnished with a microprocessor based Data Alarm Mini Processor. The panel shall include unit switching functions and display normal functions, malfunctions, and service diagnostics on a 1row, 16character liquid crystal in full English language. The panel shall automatically display temperature and humidity along with all operational and alarm messages. The panel shall recall and display the high and low temperature and high and low humidity for the last 24hours, current percent of capacity and average percent of capacity for the last hour of operation for compressor, reheat, humidification, dehumidification, and chilled water operation (as applicable).
2.Programming shall have a 2level password security to prevent unauthorized access. Programming shall be accomplished entirely from the microprocessor. Programmable functions shall be entered on non-volatile EEPROM to insure program retention should power fail. Multiple messages shall be displayed by automatically scrolling from each message to the next. Alarm conditions, in addition to being displayed, shall enunciate an audible alarm with variable output. Additional test or service terminals shall not be required for any functions.
3.An alarm condition shall continue to be displayed until the malfunction is corrected. Multiple alarms shall be displayed sequentially in order of occurrence and only those alarms which have not been acknowledged shall continue to sound an audible alarm. The Data Alarm Mini Processor shall perform an automatic selftest on system startup. A user accessible diagnostic program shall air in system component trouble shooting by displaying on the unit LCD screen output relay number, terminal plug and pin number for each controlled item.
4.The following functions shall be programmable:

H.Electric Reheat: Reheat shall be of the finned tube resistant type, with plated fins to withstand moist conditions. Reheat shall be installed on the air discharge side of the evaporator.
I.Condensate Pump: A condensate pump shall be provided with unit and shall have a capacity of [60]GPH at [____] feet of head.
J.Filter: A 2inch, 60 percent efficient (based on ASHRAE 52.11992 standard(s) disposable filter of 20inches square (20inch by 20inch) shall be located behind and accessible through the hinged return air grille.
K.Controls: Control system shall be electromechanical based, utilizing a 24volt thermostat. Units with humidifier shall contain humidistat and dehumidistat. The controls shall be accessible through the side panel of the unit. Removal of the unit from the ceiling space shall not be required for access.
L.Electrical: All electrical components including contactors, relays, control transformers, and capacitors shall be prewired. The control circuit voltage shall be 24 volts. A microswitch shall disable the unit operation prior to condensate pan overflow should the drain line become plugged with debris.
M.Humidifiers: Humidifier shall be of the selfcontained disposable cylinder type with electronic controls. Humidifier shall discharge pure steam with no material dust carry over, and have selfregulating automatic flush cycle. Cylinders shall be disposable not requiring cleaning or maintenance. Humidifier rate shall automatically adapt, both in frequency and duration, to variations in the incoming water.

2.04 ARCHITECTURE/COMMUNICATION

A.General Requirements: The Project shall be comprised of a high speed Ethernet network utilizing BACnet/IP communications between system controllers and workstations. Communications between system controllers and subnetworks of custom application controllers and/or application specific controllers shall utilize BACnet/MSTP (RS485) communications.
1.Each system controller shall perform communications to a network of custom application and application specific controllers using BACnet/MSTP (RS485) as prescribed by the BACnet standard.
a.Each system controller shall function as a BACnet router to each unit controller providing a unique BACnet device ID for all controllers within the system.
2.For the minimum points to be mapped to the BMS by BACnet, refer to the BMS points list. As part of the Shop Drawing submittal for this equipment, indicate confirmation of the minimum points by BACnet and provide a list of additional points that are available.
PART 3 - EXECUTION
3.01 INSTALLATION
A.Framework: Furnish and install angle and channel iron and welded structural steel supports incidental to mounting units as shown on Drawings. Coat steel work provided under this Section with rust inhibitive primer.
B.Vibration Isolation: Units shall have vibration isolators specified in Section 230548.
1.Units shall have Type F double deflection neoprene isolators.
2.Condenser shall have Type G neoprene pad isolators.
C.Flexible Connections: Flexible connections to ductwork and units shall be ventglas double, neoprene coated fabric, 1/16inch thick or equal and approved. Provide instrument test holes and caps located downstream of discharge of each fan for checking and adjusting air flow. Balance fans as specified.
D.Installation: Install unit in location indicated on Drawings. Bolt sections together with gaskets installed in accordance with manufacturer's recommendations. Connect ductwork to unit with flexible connections.
E.Lubrication: After systems and equipment have been installed and just prior to building acceptance, properly lubricate motors and equipment installed under this section.
F.Valves: Furnish and install balancing and shutoff valves and fittings as detailed on Drawings.
G.Controls: Controls shall be furnished with unit. Contractor shall be responsible for final connections.

H.Power: Power wiring shall be through disconnect switch to unit as described in Division26 and called for in Motor Schedule. Other wiring shall be by this Contractor.
I.Refrigeration Piping: Installed as directed by unit manufacturer in accordance with Section 232300.
J. Coil Guard and Cottonwood Screen Protection: Provide and mount a cottonwood screen around the condenser coil to guard against hail and to protect the finned surface from collecting debris.
