Speech Proficiency

Ignite Presentation

Assignment

One of the requirements for graduation from the Pleasanton Unified School District is to pass the Speech Proficiency. For this requirement, you will be memorizing and delivering a 5-minute speech for the class. This speech is a demonstration speech, which means you will be teaching the class how to do something. You may choose the topic of your speech.

You will sign up for a time during the week of June 1-5 to give your speech. It must be delivered with minimal use of notes (ONE note-card, no complete sentences). You will be graded according to the attached rubric.

Guidelines

The structure of this speech will be an Ignite speech. According to their website, Ignite is “a series of speedy presentations, where each speaker shares their personal or professional passions, using 20 slides that auto-advance every 15 seconds for a total of just five minutes.”

Your speech needs to include all the necessary components of a speech: an intro that sets up your topic and main idea (kind of like a thesis), a body that includes the “meat” of your speech, and a conclusion that wraps up your main point and adds some significance for your audience.
