Heron was conceived as well for the ophthalmologist who wants to use a Specular Microscope for routine examinations, as for those that want to run research, prepare classes, export images to the Internet or Power Point for the participation at a Congress and to process these images. The HERON software was planned to satisfy any kind of requirement of our clients.
Considering the configuration, the Heron is much more than just a console for statistic measurements of the endothelial cells. It comes with software and hardware based on the Windows Vista platform, that allow the printing of much more complete information, the option to make manual or automatic measurements, the option to select the quantity of sections of the image to be processed , the option to select between 8 pre-captured images or a sequence of up to 60 images for later selection of the most important ones.
Finally, the HERON ("stand-alone" instrument) has an integrated computer with conventional operational system – Windows Vista – as a differential to the other specular microscopes that use complex operational systems which do not permit easy maintenance and upgrade of the software. Normally, when there is a break-down the Doctor replaces the whole instrument, complicating work and resulting in expenses, and faces the probability that the software is obsolete in a few years. The system implanted in the Heron innovates, allowing for upgrades of the software and hardware because it is based on the platform of a powerful microcomputer, allowing for a much longer useful lifespan than that of other “stand-alone” systems.

Image capturing
The alignment of one central and two lateral cameras provides the capturing of cell images through a fourth camera, using a pedal (USB).
This arrangement is part of an exclusive system for the eye-alignment of the patient.
Image – Processing
We offer two methods of image-processing and counting of cells:
Automatic : processing of polimegatism and pleoformism is totally automatic, as well as cell-counting and detection of their rims.
Manual : The operator can process all the measurements manually.
Easy and flexible alignment
Being a semi-automatic instrument in terms of the process of capturing images, the Doctor decides where he wants to capture images and how many he wants to capture.
High-Resolution Color Monitor
The user can observe cell images, in real time, during the capture process.
Ultra-fast and Secure Software
The software of the instrument is based on Windows Vista and allows for the storage of thousands of examinations, including images and data of polimegatism and pleoformism. The data are protected and ready for re-printing when required. Back-up of all data with one single click.
The software carries out all calculations of pleoformism and polimegatism and prints on the monitor as well as on the report colored and didactic graphics containing all information. /
The software allows the reprocessing of images previously saved in the data bank, so that the doctor can control if the measurement of his employee was accurately executed or not. No other system on the market offers this feature!
Statistic maps, pleoformism, polymegatism, original image of the medical exam and image after processing, complete data of the clinic, including logo, data of doctor and patient. Therefore, the report can easily be printed, sent by e-mail or digitally filed and also be saved. All this turns the Heron into a modern and at the same time ecologically correct instrument. /
The Heron is so robust and trustworthy that, even in extreme cases, where the automatic processing might not work, it is possible to determine the density and all other parameters, cell by cell.
Calibration module for software. The Hern always measures precise density yhanks to this module. /
In case the customer wants to dismount the Heron from its base for traveling and use in any other locations, the optical head is fitted with a modern handle for total portability and can easily be removed. / The report can easily be printed, sent by e-mail or digitally filed and also be saved.
The Wavetek specular microscope HERON can be configured to the requirements of the client : Table, slit lamp and color printer are indispensible accessories and can all be included in the final order.
