Specific Duties of Officer Trustees

The following role description will be used for all Greenwich Students’ Union Representatives, full or part time. Some roles will have additional responsibilities and these will be detailed in the role descriptions.

Core Description:

  • Design annual work streams in line with elected manifesto, which will be continually approved by relevant councils
  • Distribute time appropriately between all Greenwich Campuses (Avery Hill, Medway, and Greenwich)
  • Act as a figurehead of the SU at all times in the role
  • Undertake training as appropriate, supported by SU staff
  • Attend all agreed meetings
  • Ensure student consultation is at the heart of the SU by allocating student facing time
  • Increase student engagement within SU activities, including membership and commercial services
  • Advocate, lobby and campaign in student interests on a local and national level as required
  • Understand the variety of demographics of students at Greenwich, and represent their needs
  • Undertake all duties as required of the XXXX Role in accordance with the Bye Laws
  • Champion the SU values, beliefs and behaviours
  • Adhere to all SU and University policies and procedures
  • Report to necessary bodies and groups
  • Be held to account by students through regular reporting
  • Support the promotion of the Union and its services through various channels (e.g. digital media and physical presence)
  • Participate in the University’s Academic Disciplinary processes
  • Take the lead on developing relevant policy within the Union as determined by relevant councils and boards

Specific duties are given below in addition to the core role description above.

President

The President of the Students' Union is the figurehead for the organisation and the first point of contact for many external organisations. The President's role is to co-ordinate the activities of the sabbatical team and lead on Union Development.

The President will:

  • Design annual work streams in line with elected manifesto, which will be continually approved by relevant councils
  • Distribute time appropriately between all Greenwich Campuses (Avery Hill, Medway, and Greenwich)
  • Act as a figurehead of the SU at all times in the role
  • Undertake training as appropriate, supported by SU staff
  • Attend all agreed meetings
  • Ensure student consultation is at the heart of the SU by allocating student facing time
  • Increase student engagement within SU activities, including membership and commercial services
  • Advocate, lobby and campaign in student interests on a local and national level as required
  • Understand the variety of demographics of students at Greenwich, and represent their needs
  • Undertake all duties as required of the Presidency in accordance with the Bye Laws
  • Champion the SU values, beliefs and behaviours
  • Adhere to all SU and University policies and procedures
  • Report to necessary bodies and groups
  • Be held to account by students through regular reporting
  • Support the promotion of the Union and its services through various channels (e.g. digital media and physical presence)
  • Participate in the University’s Academic Disciplinary processes
  • Take the lead on developing relevant policy within the Union as determined by relevant councils and boards

Specific Duties of the Role:

  • Provide the main channel of communication with the University on matters of Union policy, and to act as the spokesperson for the Union to the media (via the University Press Office) and on other occasions as required.
  • Liaise with the Chief Executive regarding the effective running of the organization including all aspects of union development and democracy
  • Lead the Sabbatical team.

Vice President, Welfare

This Officer leads on campaigning for the welfare and wellbeing of Greenwich students; overseeing the Union Advice Service, and encouraging students to take part in all aspects of the Union.

The VP Welfare will:

  • Design annual work streams in line with elected manifesto, which will be continually approved by relevant councils
  • Distribute time appropriately between all Greenwich Campuses (Avery Hill, Medway, and Greenwich)
  • Act as a figurehead of the SU at all times in the role
  • Undertake training as appropriate, supported by SU staff
  • Attend all previously agreed meetings
  • Ensure student consultation is at the heart of the SU by allocating student facing time
  • Increase student engagement within SU activities, including membership and commercial services
  • Advocate, lobby and campaign in student interests on a local and national level as required
  • Understand the variety of demographics of students at Greenwich, and represent their needs
  • Undertake all duties as required of the Vice President Welfare in accordance with the Bye Laws
  • Champion the SU values, beliefs and behaviours
  • Adhere to all SU and University policies and procedures
  • Report to necessary bodies and groups
  • Be held to account by students through regular reporting
  • Support the promotion of the Union and its services through various channels (e.g. digital media and physical presence)
  • Participate in the University’s Academic Disciplinary processes
  • Take the lead on developing relevant policy within the Union as determined by relevant councils and boards

Specific Duties of the Role:

  • Actively support the Welfare Council by undertaking campaigning on issues as agreed by the group
  • Take a lead on, and improve initiatives on, and around, student wellbeing including Mental Health.
  • Support the work on liberation and champion the work of the liberation officers including, BAME (Black, Asian and Minority Ethnic), Disabled, LGBTQ+, and Women.
  • Working with the permanent staff team, oversee all aspects of the Students’ Union Advice Service as appropriate

Vice President, Education

This Officer leads on all issues relating to the education of the student body.

The VP Education will:

  • Champion the SU values, beliefs and behaviours
  • Adhere to all SU and University policies and procedures
  • Report to necessary bodies and groups

  • Support the promotion of the Union and its services through various channels (e.g. digital media and physical presence)
  • Participate in the University’s Academic Disciplinary processes
  • Take the lead on developing relevant policy within the Union as determined by relevant councils and boards

Specific Duties of the Role:

  • Oversee the development of academic representation systems within the SU and University (e.g. Academic Reps Network)
  • Liaise with the Representation and Advice Team regarding the effective running of academic representation and activity structures, and identify trends in academic issues.

Vice President, Student Activities

This officer leads on the provision and development of a wide range of accessible activities, facilities and services for the student body.

The VP Student Activities will:

  • Design annual work streams in line with elected manifesto, which will be continually approved by relevant councils
  • Distribute time appropriately between all Greenwich Campuses (Avery Hill, Medway, and Greenwich)
  • Act as a figurehead of the SU at all times in the role
  • Undertake training as appropriate, supported by SU staff
  • Attend all previously agreed meetings
  • Ensure student consultation is at the heart of the SU by allocating student facing time
  • Increase student engagement within SU activities, including membership and commercial services
  • Advocate, lobby and campaign in student interests on a local and national level as required
