Dear Show Choir Student,
Congratulations to our newest members of Sparta High School Show Choir! Welcome back, upperclassmen! We are already busy making plans for our SHOW CHOIR SUMMER CAMP! We have another exciting year planned.
SUMMER WORKSHOP dates and times are:
Tuesday, August 11 10 am - 3 pm
Wednesday, August 12 10 am – 3 pm
Thursday, August 13 10 am – 3 pm
Friday, August 14 10 am – 3 pm
EVERYONE IS REQUIRED TO ATTEND! Please make plans now with family and employers. Missing this workshop means that you will not know the music or choreography for our first concert.
INVITE YOUR FRIENDS who may be interested in joining. They are more than welcome to join us at this camp, which will serve as their audition for the 2015-2016 school year. We are always looking for new members! J
Jonathan Lamb will be your workshop choreographer – yay, Jonathan! We do not know the show theme at this time, but Jonathan’s last show was a great hit with “Uptown Funk”, “Survivor”, and “Fly”.
Each day during camp, we will take time to sing our new music, practice choreography basics, and learn new dances. You will have a 45-minute lunch break each day; you can go out for lunch, go home for lunch, or bring your lunch. You will also get our first quarter rehearsal schedule, as well as a list of anticipated performances for the year. You will also get your uniform; it’s very important to be available during uniform sizing, which will be based on seniority. Returning members: make sure you can find your black pants (men), and bloomers and tights for the ladies. If you’ve misplaced these, you’ll need to purchase new this year.
You can see that it is very important to clear your schedule for SUMMER WORKSHOP. Work is not an excuse! If you need to work, I understand; you may need to make some tough decisions if your schedule is too full. Because show choir students are involved in many other activities, we do not have a very regular schedule during the year. You have dedicated yourself to this organization, and that means making some sacrifices at times. Students who do not attend the workshop will not be able to participate in the first concert. It is your responsibility to notify the director if you cannot make it. It is essential to our choreographer that we know BEFOREHAND exactly how many girls and how many guys we have performing. Please follow through on your commitment.
Students who are in sports practices: please talk to your coach to see if we can share you during show choir camp week. Our coaches have traditionally been very receptive to compromise, but they need to know ASAP. Remember: show choir tries to schedule around all other activities during the school year, and this workshop only lasts 4 days. ATHLETES: Please let me know when you can come, and do not wait until the last minute to finalize these plans! Your attendance will determine quite a bit of our choreography schedule, but I can’t change things at the last minute.
Please wear comfortable clothes and shoes, and bring a water bottle. I’m not sure if the air conditioning will be on; the choir room gets very hot with all of the activity.
VERY IMPORTANT: You will receive a copy of the extra-curricular code at camp, and you will be expected to return it to Mr. Sanders during camp week. You need to fill out this form every year. If you already returned your code for 2015-16 athletics or “Mary Poppins”, you don’t need to do it again.
A special congratulations goes out to our seniors, many who have made sacrifices and dedicated themselves to this fun group for the past 3 years! Returning members: be ready to ‘move up a row’ – you deserve it!
Congratulations on being a member of this outstanding organization!
Musically,
Janette K. Hanson
