COURSE DESCRIPTION: Spanish III SL is a continuing course designed fornon-native Spanish students who wish to continue their study of the Spanish Language beyond the minimum graduation requirement. A third year of foreign language is highly recommended for all college-bound students. This course is also recommended as a pre-requisite to the AP Spanish Language course for students who need to further develop their proficiency in Spanish before attempting a college-level course in Spanish. The emphasis will be to help students to continue to improve their proficiency in speaking, reading and writing while building upon the concepts learned in Spanish II. The students will continue to study grammar rules, vocabulary and Spanish-speaking cultures using a wide variety of interactive classroom activities.
PREREQUISITE: Spanish II
ASSESSMENT: Students will be assessed formally and informally including: tests, quizzes, homework and classwork assignments, participation, group and individual projects, notebook, etc.
GRADING: 50% -- Major Work (Tests, Projects, Notebook, Participation)
50% -- Daily Work (Quizzes, Classwork, Homework, etc.)
LATE HOMEWORK ASSIGNMENTS: Fifteen percent (15%) will be deducted from all assignments turned in one (1) day late. Other late assignments will earn a grade no higher than seventy percent (70%). After one week, assignments will earn a grade no higher than fifty percent (50%).
TUTORING/ RETESTING: Tutoring and retesting is available to students who have not demonstrated mastery of a concept. In order to be eligible for retesting, the student must meet several requirements. (Refer to Student Handbook.)
MAKE-UP WORK: A student must make arrangements to turn in missed work on the day he/she returns to school. If the student is absent on a known test day, he/she will be expected to take the test on the day he/she returns. Students have one day for make-up for each day of excusedabsence. (Refer to the Student Handbook.)
REQUIRED MATERIALS:
- Textbook: ¡Exprésate!
- 3-ring binder (1 ½-inch)
- Pen (blue or black ink)
- #2 pencil
- Notebook dividers
NOTEBOOK: The notebook should be arranged in chronological order and must contain atitle page,signed copy of course syllabus and the following dividers:
- Objetivos 5. Exámenes y Pruebas
- Apuntes 6. Dictados y Composiciones
- Prácticas 7. Lecturas
- Tareas 8. Vocabulario Personal
CLASSROOM RULES:
1. COME TO CLASS PREPARED AND ON TIME.
2. FOLLOW TEACHER’S DIRECTIONS.
3. ALLOW OTHER STUDENTS TO LEARN.
4. NO PROFANITY, TEASING OR PUT-DOWNS.
5. DO NOT USE ELECTRONIC DEVICES IN CLASS WITHOUT PERMISSION FROM THE TEACHER.
6. CLEAN UP DESK AND SURROUNDING AREA BEFORE LEAVING.
CONSEQUENCES FOR NOT FOLLOWING RULES:
1ST OFFENSE= LOSS OF PARTICIPATION POINTS (WARNING)
2ND OFFENSE= STUDENT/TEACHER CONFERENCE
3RD OFFENSE= CALL PARENTS
4TH OFFENSE= REFERRAL TO PRINCIPAL
