Classroom Procedures/Policies / Late Work
Late work will be accepted. However, 25 points will be deducted. It is imperative that assignments be submitted when due.
Tutorials
Missed tutorials will result in a grade of zero. Students will be allowed to complete assignments during STEP. However, student can only obtain 50 points for these assignments.
Classroom Policies and Procedures
·  All school policies and procedures are followed in this classroom.
·  No hats, coats, beepers, electronics, headphones, radio/CD players, cell phones, magazines, food or drink.
·  Students are expected to be in class on time. Tardiness is a disruption to the classroom. If you are late, wait quietly at the door.
·  Passes are a privilege and can be denied.
Student Code of Conduct / All students are expected to adhere to the Southwest High School Patriot Pride Matrix and Bibb County Code of Conduct, designed to promote a safe and respectful learning environment. For more information about your rights and responsibilities consult your Southwest Student/Parent Handbook.
Tutorial Component / Two days a week, students will be tutored in assigned subject areas. Students are assigned to certain tutorial groups based on need. Conferences with students and progress report grades will be taken into consideration before tutorial placement. This is not a study hall or a time to simply do homework. These sessions are used to discuss class notes, review for tests, and solve difficult homework problems. Tutors are mainly college students who are here to guide discussions, not hand out answers, and they are to be treated with respect.
Academic Integrity: Plagiarism/Consequences / Honor Before Grades
Academic dishonesty will not be tolerated. Forms of academic dishonesty include plagiarism, cheating, fabrication and grade tampering. At your request, the teacher will provide more detailed descriptions of academic dishonesty.
It is expected that members of this class will observe strict policies of academic honesty and will be respectful of each other. Any instances in which cheating, including plagiarism and unauthorized use of copyrighted materials, computer accounts, or someone else’s work is determined, student will receive a grade of zero for assignment and will participate in a parent/teacher conference.
Academic Probation / A student will be placed on academic probation once course grade(s) fall below a 75. Student will be required to attend STEP daily until the next grading period. No Exceptions!!! Participation in AVID events may also be limited.

In addition, students and parent are expected to participate in AVID workshops. Failure to do so will result in the student being excluded from trips.
Additional Guidelines / ·  The students in AVID function like a family. We all need to take responsibility for helping one another set and achieve goals. Students will be asked to help tutor one another, and participate in fund-raisers and community events. These tasks should be undertaken cheerfully and enthusiastically.
·  Because there are tutoring days, talking in the classroom is necessary. Students need to remember that although discussion is fundamental to the tutoring process, the room needs to be quiet enough for everyone to study.
·  Students need to arrive to class on time with the needed materials (binders, paper, planner…) for the day.
·  My desk and its contents are off limits to students without my permission.
·  All students should help clean and straighten the room before leaving for their next class.
·  In the event of my absence I expect you to follow all classroom guidelines.
Fire Drills / ·  AVID students will stop work and listen for instructions from teacher.
·  Students will line up at the door and exit quietly.
·  Teacher will escort students outside. All students are expected to be with the class. Failure to do so may result in Office Referral.
