Southeast Missouri Science Teachers of Missouri (STOM)

NEW TEACHER AWARD

Ameren Missouri

Ameren Missouri in addition to a donation to the general science fair fund will be mailing a $100 VISA Card to the winner of a project from all categories that involves the use, distribution, transmission or generation of electricity for the betterment or benefit of either mankind or the electric industry.

American Chemical Society

The Southern Illinois Section of the American Chemical Society will present a cash award to the best Junior Biochemistry, Junior Chemistry, Senior Biochemistry, and Senior Chemistry exhibits.

American Meteorological Society

The American Meteorological Society will be providing two certificates of Outstanding Achievement to students (Grade 9-12) for creative scientific endeavor in the areas of atmospheric and related oceanic and hydrologic sciences.

American Psychological Association and

Teachers of Psychology in Secondary Schools

The American Psychological Association (APA) Education Directorate will award one certificate recognizing outstanding research in psychology science under the category of behavioral and social sciences or any category related to psychology (e.g., animal sciences, biochemistry, computer science, environmental science or medicine & health).

RECIPIENT: Parker McCormick and Toby Miller, Malden High School

ASM Materials Education Foundation

The ASM International Foundation will provide a medallion and certificate to recognize the winner of the best materials engineering project.

RECIPIENT: Ty Wilthong and Brittan Jones, Scott City Middle School

Association for Women Geoscientists

The Association for Women Geoscientists (AWG) will be providing an Award Certificate to the female student whose exhibit exemplifies high standards of innovativeness and scientific excellence in geosciences. Special consideration will be given to projects that increase the public awareness of the geosciences, illustrate the interdisciplinary nature of the geosciences, or promote the sensitivity to the earth as a global system.

Cape Girardeau Area Engineers Club

The Cape Girardeau Area Engineers Club will be providing a cash gift to the best junior and senior engineering exhibits.

Cape West Rotary Club

The Cape West Rotary Club will present a $100 VISA Gift Card to Junior and Senior Winners in the Medicine and Health Category

Genius Olympiad

The Exceptional Genius Award will be presented to two recognized projects along with an opportunity to compete in GENIUS Olympiad, an international high school project competition focusing on environmental issues. Students in grades 9-12 will be eligible to compete by submitting a project which aims to raise awareness of sustainability problems in our world among high school students. The 2013 GENIUS Olympiad will be held June 16-21 in New York. Lodging, meal and local transportation will be provided by GENIUS Olympiad.

I-SWEEP 2013

This is awarded to top high school projects selected in the categories of Energy, Engineering, or Environment who display outstanding work in the theme of environmental sustainability and innovation. Winner will have the opportunity to attend the International Sustainable World Project Olympiad to be held in Houston, TX May 8-13, 2013.

Outstanding Sustainability Award: Myea Sutton, T.S. Hill Dexter Middle School

Intel Excellence in Computer Science Award

Intel is providing the Intel Excellence in Computer Science Award to the top high school first place winner in the Senior Division (9-12th grade) Computer Science Category.

Recipient: Kolton Benoit, Delta High School

Mu Alpha Theta

Mu Alpha Theta (National High School and Two-Year College Mathematics Honor Society) will provide one award to the individual or group project (9-12th grade) demonstrating the most challenging, original, thorough, and creative investigation of a problem involving mathematics. (This project does not necessarily have to be entered in the Mathematics category).

NOT AWARDED

National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA)

This award will go to the one individual (middle or high school) selected from among all the general award categories whose research emphasizes NOAA’s mission “to understand and predict changes in climate, weather, oceans, coasts, to share that knowledge and information with others, and to conserve and manage coastal and marine ecosystems and resources.”

RECIPIENT: Zachary Vogel, Saxony Lutheran High School

National Society of Professional Engineers

The National Society of Professional Engineers in Industry will provide one award (grades 7-12) for the most outstanding engineering project.

RECEPIENT: Ethan Seyer, Oak Ridge High School

Office of Naval Research

The Office of Naval Research is committed to supporting science, technology, engineering and mathematics (STEM) initiatives and programs. Certificates of achievement and medallions will be awarded to students in the Junior Division.

Ricoh Sustainable Development Award

This award will go to the one (individual) or team project, selected from among all the general award categories, whose technological and scientific innovations best reflect the principles of sustainability-balancing economic development with environmental responsibility

Rotary Club of Cape Girardeau

The Rotary Club of Cape Girardeau will present a $100 cash award to a student from a Cape Girardeau School.

RECIPIENT: Megan Peters, St. Vincent de Paul

Society for In Vitro Biology

The Society for In Vitro biology will provide one award to the most outstanding 11th grade student exhibiting in the areas of plant or animal in vitro biology or tissue culture.

NOT AWARDED

Southeast Missouri Dental Society

The Southeast Missouri Dental Society, in addition to a donation to the general science fair fund, will provide a cash award to the outstanding project in the senior division ($100) and junior division ($25) showing outstanding creativeness, scientific thought and thoroughness. Dentistry is an amalgam of many scientific disciplines and the award is not restricted to a particular field of study.

JUNIOR RECEPIENT: Austin Van de Ven, St. Vincent de Paul

SENIOR RECEPIENT: Sierra Woods, Puxico R-8 Schools

U.S. Metric Association

The U.S. Metric Association will be providing a certificate to a student in the senior division (grades 9-12) whose project involves quantitative measures and which best uses the SI metric system for those measures

RECIPIENT: Jake LeGrand, Oak Ridge High School

U.S. Public Health Service

The Surgeon General’s Special Science Award will be presented to a distinguished student which creatively illustrates and expands upon key areas of health prevention (i.e., tobacco-free living, preventing drug abuse; healthy eating and emotional well-being, reproductive and sexual health, etc.)

RECIPIENT: Rachael Gruenwald, Saxony Lutheran High School

U.S. Air Force

The U.S. Air Force will give four equal awards consisting of a Laptop Backpack, Personal Lunch Bag, 3-in-1 Calculator/Picture Frame/LCT Digital Clock and Helicopter Pen to students with projects that focus on math, sciences and engineering areas.
