President’s Corner . . .

Greetings,

It’s hard to believe that we are already 30 days into the new Rotary Year! Thank you to all of you who have volunteered to serve on a Committee and those who will lead the Committees/Avenues of Service. With all of your participation, we will have a very productive year. New fundraising ideas and community service projects have already been discussed along with awesome PR ideas. This is new Committee this year (Public Relations), headed by our very own Jill Lewis.

This past Wednesday, July 28th, was a bitter/sweet day for our Club, as we all said our farewell’s to Philipp. What an outstanding young man. He made a positive impact on our Club, Community, and Host Families. We will miss him.

Regarding our Youth Exchange Program, it wouldn’t be as successful as it is, without Greg Bauer and Gary Bergh. As we found out from John Spillane, the District Youth Exchange Officer for Germany, not all Rotary Clubs have the success that the SSP/IGH Rotary Club has. On behalf of our entire Club, thank you Greg and Gary. Youth Exchange is such as important part of Rotary, and we are fortunate to have you.

I look forward to working with all of you over the next 11 months, remember……

August Program Lineup:

August 4th: DakotaCounty Sheriff Dave Bellows will share with us about the crime in the area and the trends that he sees coming up for DakotaCounty.

August 11th: Andy Goke, Youth Protection Chair, for District 5960 will with us to go through the District’s Youth Protection Policy. Every Rotarian needs to be aware of the new policy and how it affects the time we spend with the exchange student(s). Andy has asked that we familiarize ourselves with the policy prior to the meeting so please go to and click on “programs” and “Youth Protection” on the left hand column.

August 18th: Cara Lamers, our club’s outbound exchange student for 2009-2010, returns. She will share with the club information about her year in Germany and how it has impacted her life.

August 25th: Alex Amble is a 14 year old young man afflicted with a mild form of Muscular Dystrophy. He has set about raising $1 million for MDA. As a part of that effort, he has produced a music CD and will be sharing his music and story with us at the meeting. Don’t miss this one!

Welcome Jannis!

Mid-August we will be welcoming our new exchange student, Jannis, arriving from Germany. He will be hosted by the Kimble family. They had such a good time with Philipp they are trying it again! Be sure to give a warm welcome to Jannis and give the Kimble’s a big “thanks” when you see them.
