Application form for exercises and camping in the New Forest (where

Forestry Commission or overnight campsites are used, or where routes

are not wholly on main tracks and paths). Please return this form with

a map showing your proposed route and mark clearly any overnight

locations. (see Forestry Commission conditions overleaf). Charges

apply for wild sites, payable at the time of booking.

All applications must be 6 weeks in advance. It is recommended that

you provisionally book Forestry Commission wild sites or Forest Holiday

Camp sites well in advance to avoid disappointment.

1. There is always a risk of forest fire, both within woodlands and on the open forest. Smoking and fires are strictly forbidden.

2. The Forestry Commission Byelaws 1982 must be strictly observed.

3. Members of the public are permitted to enter Forestry Commission land and buildings entirely at their own risk and on the condition that they will have no claim whatsoever against the Forestry Commission for any loss, damage or injury howsoever suffered or caused but subject to the Unfair Contract Terms 1977, as amended by the Occupiers Liability Act 1984.

4. Permission given for hiking and map reading cover Forestry Commission land in the New Forest

Only; private landowners should be approached separately.

5. No expeditions or camping may be held within or through an inclosure between dusk and dawn.

Camping – Wild sites will now incur a charge of £20.00 per group, per night, per site. Payable in advance at the time of booking. Please make cheques payable to the Forestry Commission, or pay by card over the phone.

Permission can be granted for overnight lightweight camping on the OpenForest for Award participants and leaders only, provided size of groups complies with D of E 20 conditions, viz. 4 -7 people plus leader maximum 8 people and maximum 2 groups per wild site. Accessible locations should be chosen. The map references for the Forestry Commission preferred locations are centred on (i.e. within 100m square):

  1. Notes. The above sites have NO FACILITIES (i.e. NO toilets, water, car parking) and they are not signed in any way. Over-night parking is not allowed in Forest Car parks, however leaders leaving vehicles in a car park near to any wild site may do so provided a copy of the Forestry Commission Permission form is left clearly visible on the dash board. Please park any vehicles in the designated car parks provided, please do not verge park or drive off road. Wild camping is not allowed at any other location apart from the preferred locations above.Award participants and leaders may use the following Forest campsites when they are open, at normal charges. Please contact Camping in the Forest to make a booking – telephone 0845 130 8224. Without confirmation of your booking from Camping in the Forest you will not be allowed on the site. Numbers of participants are to be restricted to a maximum of 7 in a group, plus a member of staff. Leaders are to remain with the group at all times whilst staying on sites. Once your booking has been confirmed by Camping in the Forest, the organiser has 14 days to make payment - amendments can be made after this time.

The Forestry Commission reserves the right to cancel any permission granted at short notice in the event of extreme fire danger, outbreak of foot and mouth disease, or any similar emergency.
