Ramona Beiswanger: Humanities class field trip to Chanhassen on October 28 – extra tickets are available, question on school’s commitment to Humanities – looking for rationale and documentation on why only able to offer and teach one Humanities course per semester, Goal 6 includes arts and humanities; Per Judy Shultz – offer one Humanities course and one Critical Thinking course each semester or one section of each discipline each semester as a result of the discussion held last year to allow the creation of new prefix (CRTK) with no credential field;
this is an administration decision, removed Critical Thinking from Humanities (no credentialed faculty for Humanities), created a new Prefix, need credentialed faculty for Humanities and Critical Thinking, concern on cost study (scheduling is contractual, by faculty – then goes to administration to incorporate into Master Schedule), Graphics and Art departments recognizing Year of Arts with monthly workshops, etc.

3000-44.1 STU Student Code of Conduct Procedure: Revised SCC policy around the MN State policy and compared with other MN State institutions’ policies. It was noted that non-academic issues will be handled by Dean of Student Affairs, if a record or documentation is needed, see Judy Zeiger; faculty should document incorrect behavior. What if a fellow student steps in to help, determine if it is helping or hindering the situation? What if a student turns in a complaint on a fellow student, Dean should refer student to Judy. Question on Good Samaritan clause – where should this be included (HR??), should online wording be included? Regarding possession of firearms – language was vetted Al Kluever and David Armstrong.

13. / Course Cancelations (Canceled is the preferred American word choice/spelling): per Arlene, need a policy or procedure for unintended effect of class cancelations, when a class is canceled that is required for a future program course, or when a class is needed for another program, concern on canceling classes too soon; suggestion made to submit as an AQIP Action Project to create policy or procedure; include department chairs, registration, admissions, (liaison model), Judy Zeiger, etc.
P: What processes did you discuss? (a process is the way you do things): used process for reviewing policies and achieved a new policy.
R: Did you use data or results? (data can be quantitative and/or qualitative): new policy created using data from MN State policy and other MN State colleges.
I: Did you improve any processes? (any changes that make things better): discussed class cancelation and request for a policy or procedure.
FYI: Qualtrics is at MSU, moving accuplacer out of admissions to pre-registration. MN State colleges are required to promote Constitution Day, SCC had tables of information. D2L class for Sexual Harassment – email was sent to all students from Judy Zeiger
