Items for attention

Raffle/Auction Items (Gabe)

Agreed to help with the 50th dinner preparations.

Has been sent a list of companies that were contacted for the last raffle so he can harass them again for freebies.

Need small number of people to send out 4 to 5 pre-prepared letters each and take responsibility communicating for them, acting as a point of contact.

Jer: See sponsorship page on the website and put a link to this in the email

Ali, Jer, Hannah volunteered to do this, however Vas said that she will never do anything for Gabe.

Was decided that 25% of the proceeds be given to charity- either the rescue helicopters or the MCS.

Safety Boats (Michelle)

See proposal.

Michelle: Good to use the boats for 6 months, as the money earned will go back into servicing.

Hannah: Money could also be used to train more Diver Cox’ns.

Dave: Asked how much fuel and oil would be required for this.

Michelle: The additional costs would be a £15 increase in insurance premium (annual), plus fuel and oil costs – these would be negligible as the boats spend all their time manning one position on the river and only move if required to assist a rowing boat.

Chairman proposed a motion to use the boats for one event and then decide whether to continue based on this. – Motion passed.

Steve: Will it change the maintenance plan?

Michelle: Currently the boats are serviced once a year before Easter training. Using the boats through winter would lead to a more proactive maintenance schedule. Has to be the RIBs, as it is a requirement that the safety boats be RIBs.

Treasurer’s report

SEE THE BUDGET

Diving officer’s report (MICHELLE)

Trip to Gozo went well. Well done to all involved.

Due to be a trip in 2 weekends time, however due to bad forecasts it could be blown out. Will decide by Thursday and will send out email.

Training officers’s Report (Jer)

The training season has just begun. Thanks to the try dive helpers.

There are lots of crossovers this year- Steve and Helen are looking into what qualifications they have and what they’ll need to do to cross over.

Osama became a Sports Diver in Gozo, others were ginned.

Need ideas for cool places to stay for Easter training 2009 which can accommodate 50 people.

Michelle: Plymouth Uni have said they can’t. (Because of the pesky students taking up room). Danny has said that they may have accommodation at Bovi.

Jelly: But there’s still no bar, so currently not the best option.

Membership report (ANOUK)

18 sent, 25 renewals, 5 currently new people.

Will need help nagging people for membership.

Ali G: People may need an explanation of the Full/Associate membership forms – send out an email.

Would like info on who became Sports Divers and who got additional qualifications, for the BSAC Branch OTY.

ATo’s report (Anjali)

October’s IFC was cancelled, but there’s another one on the 29th November.

Dive Leader Intro Lecture was held the other day- 5 or 6 ULSACers, and a load of crossovers.

Saturday- Advanced Life Saving course.

Everything else is up on the website.

Equipment officer’s report (dave)

Please don’t use the new regs in the pool.

The rusty tanks are currently being derusted.

Cylinder E is missing, does anyone know where it is?

Michelle: Are the pool regs going to be serviced?

Dave: It depends on the budget. The others are due for servicing in January.

Currently have 30 regs, and getting 10 new: 5 from last year’s budget, and 5 from this year’s.

Michelle: Need to wait for the outcome of the branch of the year before we get any new equipment, because we could potentially get several new regs from this. Do we even need so many regs if they will only all be used during Easter training?

Anjali: Need to get information on servicing costs for different manufacturers- are some cheaper to service than others?

Gabe: Has come into a large amount of lead (60 to 70kgs). Does anyone have a weight mould, or is it a better idea just to sell it?? Could ask Tony for a weight mould.

boAT Officer’s report (vic)

Waiting for the budget before decisions are made.

Could the training team and diving officer tell the BO when the boats are definitely not needed.

Jer: 1st December.

ULSAC garage at Chiswick was unlocked and a jerry can was lying outside. Also, Dave Townsend tells us that one of the boat covers was off the boat – currently too easy to steal fuel from the boats.

Michelle: The solution is to leave the boats as empty as possible.

If you are ever at the boathouse, please check that the garage is locked and that the covers are on the boats!

socialsec report (Helen)

50th Anniversary Dinner: 92 people have got tickets, but haven’t received payment from 22 of them.

Will order merchandise by next week.

Hannah: Crossover drinks next Thursday.

Christmas party is booked – the venue is free. Tickets will be £5. 4th December in Soho.

Pub Golf – 1st November.

Possible social ideas: Laser Quest, IMAX – prehistoric sea creatures movie! Gabe was very excited by this.

Steve: If there’s a free Monday with no diving lecture, perhaps a diving related film could be shown?

Any other business

Does anyone have any stuff they would like to donate to the auction? Doesn’t have to be diving related.

Ali G: Jeff Stone, the 5th member of ULSAC, wants to come to the 50th dinner.

Anjali: We have money budgeted for speakers, could use this money to pay for a car to bring him down.

Next meeting will be on the 3rd November 2008 at 6PM.
