AWARD PROGRAMS

Soroptimist Women’s Opportunity Award Program

We provide an unrestricted cash award of $2,000 annually to a local woman who needs training or education to improve her earning capabilities.

©  Help SIFV’s public awareness chair craft an announcement to send to media and public outlets to promote the opportunity

©  Help procure a panel of judges to decide the winner

©  Club winner gets submitted to region level for further judging – if the region’s winner, goes to the Federation level

Soroptimist Violet Richardson Award Program

We recognize young women between ages 14-17 who make the community and world a better place through volunteer efforts. Cash awards are contributed to the winner’s volunteer organization as well as the winner herself (if she chooses).

STRATEGIC PROJECTS

SIFV & Grace Academy ~ Partners to Promote Education

Local project initiated in 2010-2011 club year. SIFV members self-lessly give time, energy, charity to students at Grace Academy by helping with clubs and workshops. Other activites have included back-to-school backpack & supplies drives, fundraising efforts, etc.

SIFV & PCC ~ Partners to Eradicate Domestic Violence

Preventing and eliminating domestic violence is a Soroptimist focus. Members can participate in the Soroptimist Workplace Campaign to End Domestic Violence event on November 25th and/or serve in partnership with Prudence Crandall Center, New Britain CT.

SIFV & Burmese/Karen Refugees ~ Partners in a “New World”

SIFV members help this population in several ways – teaching English, helping procure apartments, teaching them about American customs (e.g., take them Trick-or-Treating, going to Mystic Aquarium and the beach, etc.)

SIFV STOP Trafficking Initiative

Raising awareness about the sex trafficking of women and girls is a Soroptimist focus.
