- It is sponsored by CADCA’s National Coalition Institute, it recognizes coalitions achieving contributions of positive changes in community-level outcomes.

- New Liquor class in LF to delay serving alcohol until 6:00 pm.
- North Chicago coalition mentoring.

- September 28, 2016 The High School to College Transition.
- Several parents showed up but were expecting more of an admissions topic rather than a substance use topic.
- (For parents who have a teen who has just transitioned into college, or will be transitioning to college in the coming year.)
- October 12, 2016 because of a community conflict we will have Hidden in Plain Sight set up for parents to view at the Gorton Center. Every 30 minutes we will have a guided explanation by staff members.
- January 25, 2017 Teenproofing! The Middle School to High School Transition (For parents who will have a middle schooler transitioning to high school)
- April 26, 2017 The High School to College Transition – Repeat
- Medical Marijuana - Prevention Starts with Parents postcard.
- Sonali has been working with a task force on a prevention postcard that will be sent out to parents of teens throughout the county.
- It is specifically for marijuana. Parents did not realize that there was an impact.
- Dispensaries in Mundelein and Highland Park.
- On the 4th of July there were 3 citations (1 did not live here).
- The group overall liked the postcard.
- The 1st postcard will be on what parents should do and how to talk to teens.
- Meg Kincaid commented that the brain continues to develop throughout our lifetime. The message that it develops until age 25 may be too limited.
- Elevel the Highland Park dispensary is struggling since there are a limited number of cases which can legally buy.
- The 2 ½ oz. every 2 weeks is the problem, since it is much more than a person that needs to use MM can consume.
- What happens with the excess?
- This is a cash business, and MM is not covered by insurance.
- The allowable reasons are expanding to include glaucoma and eczema.
- There is a trailer bill that is being put in place to reduce the 2 ½ oz. of MM to 1 oz., as well as providing funds for prevention.
- We will be planning a Leaders Luncheon to share the IYS results with the community.
- LEAD is considering doing a Turnabout for high school students and planned by the Youth Advisory board.
The next coalition meeting will take place on Thursday, November3rd.
Thank you for attending.
