Something Is Bound To Happen When You Pray

Something Is Bound To Happen When You Pray

(John 17:1 KJV)

These words spake Jesus, and lifted up his eyes to heaven, and said, Father, the hour is come; glorify thy Son, that thy Son also may glorify thee:

In the Life of Jesus you will discover biblically that Jesus:

  • Performed 36 Miracles.
  • Taught 38 Parables.
  • Preached 16 Sermons.
  • Has 37 Names.

But, here’s something to think about whenever it come to the completeness of our bible—it has!

  • 66 Books in its entirety
  • 39 Old Testament Books / 27 New Testament Books
  • 5 Books of Laws
  • 12 History Books
  • 5 Poetic Books
  • 12 Minor Prophets Books
  • 5 Major Prophets Books
  • 5 Gospels Books
  • 1 Church History Book
  • 1 Book of Prophecy
  • 14 Pauline Epistles
  • 7 General Epistles
  • 1,189 Chapters
  • 31,214 Verses
  • 773,486 Words
  • 3,566,480 Letters
  • And out of all of this Jesus only Prayed (19) prayers.

If I were to asked you to recite the Lord’s Prayer most people will turn to Matthew 6:9-13 or Luke 11:2-4. This Prayer is sometime recited at a Presidential Inauguration. Sometimes it’s song by a soloist at a Wedding Ceremony. Some of us may have a picture hanging on the wall and within it is recorded this Prayer.

But, I must serve you notice that This Prayer is not “The Lord’s Prayer.” In that prayer, God is trying to connect us with him.

Matthew 6:9-13 is not the Lord’s Prayer because this is The Disciples Prayer or it could be mentioned as, The Model Prayer.

2 reasons I’ve discovered that this is not the Lord’s Prayer:

1. Matthew 6:12:Forgive me. Jesus cannot be forgiven, because no where in scripture you’ll find out where he ever sinned.

2. Matthew 6:12: Lead me not into temptation. Jesus cannot be tempted of anyone or anything.

When Jesus taught that Prayer to the Disciples—it wasas if he was writing a letter to his

Heavenly Father.

He Addressed the Letter to “Our Father”

The Address was “Which Art in Heaven”

The Request was “Thy kingdom come, thy will be done as it is in heaven, and give us our daily bread”

The Seal was “Thine is the Kingdom”

The Stamp was “Amen”

The Day it was sent was “This Day”

So, in this text John 17:1, let us go deeper and unpack this Prayer in which Jesus Prayed.

Prayer should be an important essential in our lives:

Prayer is our Pilgrims Staff

Our Pilots Compass

Our Christians Chariot

And

Our Soldiers Sword

I.The Person Of Prayer: Verse 1“These words spake Jesus”

a)It amazes me in the text who is praying. Jesus is praying because his Hour has arrived. And he is praying not only for himself, but He alsois praying for his Disciples, and the Believers.

b)One thing about Jesus, whenever you see him praying he “Prays Short in Public” and “Long in Private” But we do just the opposite we “Pray long in Public” and “Short in Private.” Your prayers don’t have to be Long just Strong.

  • When Hezekiah needed an extension on his life he used 66 words and God gave him 15 more extra years to live.
  • When Peter wanted to walked on water he used 13 words to get out on the water, but when he began to sink he took 10 of those words back and used only 3— “Lord, Save, Me!”
