Someday Your Prince Will Come - Until Then…

Little girls love princess movies, but life is not a fairy tail.

Tears streaming down her face, Melissa Ann fled from churchoneWednesday evening. Talking about boys with her girlfriends, she made the mistake of sharing that she thought our pastor’s son was cute. They responded like most twelve-year-old girls, they told him.

She was distraught. Pleading for guidance, I felt compelled to stop at a bookstore, and there he was – an adorable white bear with angel wings, the perfect symbol of peace, purity, and patience. He joined us as we read the flawless manuscript for life - the New Testament, Psalms, and Proverbs - to guideher through this dramatic episode and to help define the man upon whom she mayfocus her prayers.

Her bear, “Passion” maintains a special place in our lives, reminding us to pray for herprince. Someday, when she walks down the aisle, he will sit atop her wedding cake. And the Bible she read will be given to him, the answer to all our prayers, at the altar before they share their first kiss.

Holy Father,

help me guard and guide these children’s hearts

for they belong to You.

Move us to be faithful, loving, and forgiving,

especially when it hurts.

May they not be drawn by opinions or fleeting affections into relationships

that may alter the Destiny You created them to embrace.

Grant us all patience as we wait daily for You to reveal Your manuscript

for our lives.

As you walk by the way:

At an appropriate age, purchase a Bible to read with them, highlighting attributes they desire for their prince or princess. Encourage them to live out these same qualities, for God desires us to be equally yoked, even as doers of the Word. Inside the cover, prayerfully define other characteristics they desire. Be specific. Having a God-breathed criteria to guide them through the dating and courtship years will inspire them to perform their roles with excellence, creating a time-honored masterpiece with their lives, instead of producing a soap opera.

Hide in Your Hearts

(post throughout the house to memorize)

Peace

Let your gentleness be known to all men. The Lord is at hand.

Be anxious for nothing, but in by prayer and supplication,

with thanksgiving,

let your requests be made known to God;

and the peace of God, which surpasses all understanding,

will guard your hearts and minds through Christ Jesus.

Philippians 4:5-7 NKJV

Purity

Don’t let anyone look down on you because you are young,

but set an example for the believers

in speech, in conduct, in love, in faith and in purity.

1 Timothy 4:12 NIV

Patience

Love is patient…
