Solution Provider Encryption Configuration Guide

AVG Encrypted Email is designed to protect end-user customers from disclosing Personally Identifiable Information (PII) and Protect Healthcare Information (PHI) from being disclosed outside of the corporate network in plain text format. Because email is NOT a security way of communicating, outbound email is routed through a policy based encryption engine to scan for violations.

  • Log in to AVG AntiSpam ( your Solution provider credentials
  • Click on the Customer you would like to enable Encryption for
  • Mouse over Solutions on the top menu and click on Encryption
  • Configure the encryption policies based on the customers need:

  • Once AVG Encrypted Email confirms the MX records are accurate, we will configure the public keys and register the domain in the system.

zixvpm.customerdomain.com MX preference = 10, mail exchanger = zixvpm01.avgcloud.net
zixvpm.customerdomain.com MX preference = 10, mail exchanger = zixvpm02.avgcloud.net

  • After approval, you will receive an email from AVG Encrypted Email support staff that outbound email will now be forked through the policy based encryption service.

How to Activate Encryption for Specific Users

If you did not activate Encryption for all users, you can do so individually by clicking on the Name of the user, mouse over “Solutions -> Encryption -> Settings”.

Sending an Encrypted Messages is Simple and Convenient

There is NO end-user change in behavior. There is no software to install or configure, you can use it on-demand by using a FORCE Phrase keyword selected in the subject of the message

Or by tripping one of the preselected encryption policies (ex: Social Security)

Or by marking the message as confidential in Outlook

Either way, the message will be encrypted and stored in a secure portal.

Recipient Message Retrieval

Regardless of whether you use FORCE keyword or trip one of the policies the recipient will receive the following message indicating that you’ve sent them an encrypted message and they will be prompted to click on it to retrieve it.

The user will then be redirected to the secure portal to retrieve the message.

If this is the first time the recipient is accessing the encryption portal they will need to create an account to retrieve the secure message.

After youhave successfully registered and activated your password, you are ready to navigate theSecure Message Centerusing the tabs at the top of the page.

Encryption Bounces

An 'Undeliverable Notice' from the Secure Message site can be due to one of several possibilities. The 'Undeliverable Notice' message you received may contain an attachment which details the exact reason.

Below are some of the most common possibilities

1) The recipient's email address was misspelled, or the recipient address is incorrect

2) The recipient is having some type of mail related issue, and the notice could not be delivered.

3) The recipient sent a response (including an out of office replies) to the notification message, instead of accessing the Secure Message site.

NOTE: Attached to the 'Undeliverable Notice' from the Secure Message site, will be the actual bounce. Please review this attachment for the exact cause
