1.4 SYSTEM DESCRIPTION

A. Design: Gecko Wall Systems is defined as an architectural grade mounting system for 1/4 inch to 1/2 inch (6 mm to 13 mm) non-load-bearing interior wall panels, comprised of minimum 70% reclaimed post-industrial aluminum alloy content frames, high performance fastening systems and pre-engineered interlocking components, maintaining specified ANSI/ NEMA/ ASTM performance standards and having specified physical, performance, and environmental specifications.

B. Material: Gecko brand wall panel mounting system components for interior wall panels including; extruded chlorine-free plastic and reclaimed architectural grade tempered aluminum moldings. Panels are solid phenolic stable material.

1. Gecko Wall Systems aluminum frames are reclaimed and may possess slight imperfections which are part of the beauty of a reclaimed material, do not affect performance, and are not cause for rejection.

2. Appearance: Mill finish and "Brite" (light grey) finished aluminum, with monochrome plastic moldings.

C. Fire Test Response Characteristics:

1. Not applicable. System is capable of supporting panels with E-84 Class-C and Class-A surface burning characteristics.

** NOTE TO SPECIFIER ** Gecko™ installations provide a variety of system features as follows; it should be noted that the first three Gecko systems may be combined in almost any fashion, and that Gecko XF is not compatible with other components. Delete system not required.

D. System: Gecko DL: Individually demountable panels, best in class accommodation of panel, intuitive installation for non-trained persons, self-aligning of installed panels back to their original location, and zero liftoff installation for tight-fitment of wall penetrations. Gecko DL is also capable of providing extreme allowance of ventilation for indoor air circulation behind installed panels.

E. System: Gecko PRO: Modest cost progressive panel installation with the exclusive accommodation of panel movement of 0.050 inch (1.3 mm) minimum for each individual panel, exclusive provision for air circulation for each panel, and exclusive allowance of individual panel demountability of a small number of panels with prior planning. Gecko PRO has the simplest installation with the fewest components (only four) of any progressive system, and is a self-install friendly system.

F. System: Gecko Z: Z-Clip-type mounting system with exclusive individual panel demountability and exclusive locking feature for additional securement of installed panels. Gecko Z also exclusively provides internal indexing between the clip and rail components themselves for drastically easier installation layout.

G. System: Gecko XF: Basic exposed fastener system with black-coated screws countersunk into the wall panels. Gecko XF fasteners need to be indexed to secure attachment within the sub wall.

H. Installation Hardware: For vertical application of interior wall panels and aluminum trim product types:

1. Extruded aluminum framing (load bearing of specified wall panels only).

2. Extruded Aluminum and extruded plastic frames and moldings to accommodate movement and panel alignment.

3. Rubber-isolated flexible moldings to transfer horizontal loads from panel face to load-bearing sub wall behind.

4. Coated steel corrosion-resistant mechanical attachment fasteners.

1.5 SUBMITTALS

A. Submit under provisions of Section 01 30 00 - Administrative Requirements.

B. Product Data: For wall panels, moldings and fasteners. Include installation guide, warranty and engineering guide.

C. Shop Drawings: Show location of each item, dimensioned plans and elevations, large-scale details, attachment locations, seam locations, approved blocking and other components required prior to commencement of work.

1. Show locations and sizes of cutouts, and holes for fixtures, and other items installed in decorative wall panels.

2. Show location of joints and panel moldings.

3. Indicate dressing of all openings as per approved drawings; including providing finished edges on panels and/ or capping panels or corners with specified moldings, or abutting specified architectural moldings.

D. Samples: For each type of product specified, 6-inch (15 cm) square sample of phenolic material; 6 inches (152 mm) long samples of trim in specified profile. Cut sample and join together for representation of 1/4 inch (6 mm) reveal joinery system.

E. Engineering Calculations: Fabricator shall submit engineering calculations as required by local and state building codes, showing the installed panels and attachment systems meet all applicable project requirements and building codes.

a. Gecko DL components are not known to contain any VOC materials and have no intentionally added VOC content.

1.6 QUALITY ASSURANCE

A. System Type: Gecko Wall System is as architectural grade mounting system for 1/4 inch to 1/2 inch (6 mm to 13 mm) interior wall panels, comprised of minimum 70% reclaimed post-industrial aluminum alloy content, high performance fastening systems and interlocking frames, maintaining specified ANSI/ NEMA/ASTM performance standards and having specified physical, performance, and environmental specifications. Mill finish and Brite finished aluminum moldings, monochrome plastic moldings, and translucent mounting tabs.

B. Gecko Wall System shall be used in building interiors that are climate-controlled, with a typical ambient temperature between 55 and 80 degrees Fahrenheit and stable relative humidity at normal indoor levels (typically 20%- 40% RH).

C. Pre-Engineering: Gecko Wall System is a pre-engineered panel-weight-bearing mounting system for decorative non-load-bearing commercial interior wall panels.

D. Installer Qualifications: Work of this section shall be by an experienced installer with 10 years experience

E. Temperature: Verify building interiors will be climate-controlled, with a typical ambient temperature between 60 to 80 degrees F (16 to 27 degrees C) and with stable relative humidity.

1.7 DELIVERY, STORAGE AND HANDLING

A. Do not deliver components to project site until areas are ready for installation.

B. Store wall panel materials indoors at the temperature that the room will be during occupancy for at least 48 hours prior to installation. Verify panels have appropriate moisture levels suitable for indoor installation and use.

C. Handle materials to prevent damage to finished surfaces. Provide protective coverings to be placed by installers to prevent physical damage or staining following installation of complete wall system for duration of project.

1.8 MAINTENANCE

A. Removal of stains with common janitorial bleach-free cleaners. Occasional treatment of plastic moldings with a UV protectorant or plastics conditioner (e.g.; Armor All, Carnauba Wax) will extend the useful life of any exposed plastic components.

1.9 WARRANTY

A. Provide manufacturer's warranty against defects in materials.

1. Warranty shall provide material to repair or replace defective materials returned to manufacturer as specified in manufacturer's warranty.

2. Damage caused by physical or chemical abuse, misuse, incompatibility of materials, r improper installation, or inappropriate wall panel materials (e.g.; corrosive, or overweight panels) damage from insufficient anchoring into structure, adverse conditions at time of construction or thereafter, or aesthetic concerns over undressed or uncovered edges will not be warranted.

3. Warranty shall be non-transferable to subsequent owners.

B. Manufacturer's Warranty Period:

1. Wall panel to be warranted against delaminating for 15 years.

2. The factory authorized fabricator; product installer and material manufacturer shall sign the Warranty documents and submit a copy to the Owner.

PART 2 PRODUCTS

2.1 MANUFACTURERS

2.2 PHENOLIC PANEL SYSTEM

A. Description:

1. Product: Gecko DL as manufactured by Spec-Rite Designs.

a. Components shall be classed as architectural grade mounting system for 1/4 inch to 1/2 inch (6 mm to 13 mm) interior wall panels, comprised of minimum 70% reclaimed post-industrial aluminum alloy content, high performance adhesives fastening systems, and protective thermoplastic moldings, maintaining specified ANSI/ NEMA/ ASTM performance standards and having specified physical, performance, and environmental specifications.

2. Product: Gecko PRO as manufactured by Spec-Rite Designs.

3. Product: Gecko Z as manufactured by Spec-Rite Designs.

4. Product: Gecko XF as manufactured by Spec-Rite Designs.

a. Basic exposed fastener system with black-coated screws countersunk into the wall panels. Gecko XF fasteners need to be indexed to secure attachment within the sub wall.

B. System Dimension:

1. Standard panel set-off (airspace behind panel) from finished wall shall be 1/3 inch (0.340 inch or 8.6 mm).

2. Installed system with 3/8 inch (9.5 mm) thick panels shall be 0.720 inch (18.3 mm) thick (nominal 3/4 inch).

3. Standard Low Profile reveal between panels shall be 1/4 inch (0.250 inch or 6.4 mm).

C. Edge Treatment:

1. Fabricator shall sand, machine, or file all molding cut edges smooth. All panel edges (front and back) shall be chamfered for safety, reduced chipping, and improved panel movement and clearance within the system.

2. Panel Sizes: Minimum shall be 18 inches (457 mm) square; recommended maximum panel size is 6 feet (1829 mm) wide, and 10 feet (3048 mm) high for first row and 7 feet (2134 mm) high thereafter.

PART 3 EXECUTION

3.1 EXAMINATION

A. Examine wall surfaces and site conditions for compliance with requirements for installation tolerances, and other conditions affecting performance of work.

B. Do not proceed with installation until substrates have been properly prepared and deviations from manufacturer's recommended tolerances are corrected. Commencement of installation constitutes acceptance of conditions.

C. Prepare substrates using the methods recommended by the manufacturer for achieving the best result for the substrate under the project conditions.

D. If preparation is the responsibility of another installer, notify Architect in writing of deviations from manufacturer's recommended installation tolerances and conditions

3.2 INSTALLATION

A. Installation: Install wall system in accordance with manufacturer's instructions and published documents and detail drawings, and in proper relationship with adjacent construction.

B. Aluminum frame components shall be plumb, straight, level and securely fastened to solid walls.

C. Walls shall be flat, clean, dry, and minimum 4 inches x 1-5/8 inches (152 by 41.3 mm) 20 gauge steel or #2 SPF lumber 16 inches (406 mm) on center, with necessary blocking. Walls shall comply with local, state and federal building code requirements. Stud faces shall be covered with 1/2 inch (13 mm) gypsum board with the long dimension perpendicular to the studs.

D. Screws shall be imbedded 1.25 inches (38 mm) into wall structure or approved blocking.

E. Form field joints using manufacturer's supplied frames and components.
