Happy Friday!

I hope that your Friday has been fantastic at Meridian I.S.D. this week. We have many fantastic activities going on across our great school district. This week our varsity football players were reading to some of our elementary students ensuring these young scholars are exposed to good role models. These football players volunteered to read to these elementary students and are really enjoying it. Our high school students will read to the same class weekly so that they form lasting relationships.

Solid instruction was seen going on in our classrooms this week. At the high school in physics class there were hands on labs on angular acceleration. These students were also seen working in groups studying motion and objects of free falling using a photogate. These students really enjoyed the activities and were engaged the whole lesson.

Holistic campus and district planning is underway at our schools as well. Our school stakeholders are reviewing hard data and making plans on how to improve upon what we already do to facilitatestudent success. The plans are constantly reviewed and update throughout the year. Thank you to everyone who is a part of that process because it really does take everyone to keep our schools at their best.

The school board this week was working hard as well during a training session on Tuesday night. The Board got together to discuss what their vision of our schools should be. They first focused on what was going well at our campuses. The board then spent two hours discussing what goals that the school district should pursue over the next couple of years. One of the main items discussed was how proud they are of our fine staff and the job that they do for our students.

Another bright spot that I want to highlight this week involves our continual push forward to improve our technology in order to enhance instruction in the classroom. Several demo interactive projectors have been put into use in the school district. These new projectors are the style that we will be providing more of throughout the school year. Mrs. Willis at the elementary has one of these new projectors and is putting it to good use if you want to see it in action.

Hill College held there welding class this week at the Hill College Meridian Complex on 2ndstreet. The class meets twice a week and has nine students from the surrounding area. This class will greatly benefit our area by providing members of the community a chance to gain skills that will enable then to get a job. Donnie Williams from Williams Metal Works out of Hillsboro is teaching the class.

As October unfolds please remember that you are in a truly special place where people are making a difference in people’s lives every day! Have a great week!
